Etiquette confessional

Ok I do hold my hands up and it is bad form to do what I have done in the past. It is something that I have done a few times in the past. But it was only after hole after hole of people being ignorant and not showing good etiquette to other players. Anyway the only time that would happen is if you are in the habit of holding groups up when you are clearly playing slower and have a clear course ahead of you, so with everyone being polite courteous golfers on this forum it would never happen to them. I only said this as it is the only bit of poor etiquette I have ever done on purpose.

Does anyone remember the Op's desire for no retribution? Those were the days eh. Come on guys. Don't let this descend into handbags.

MadAdey its my thread so I can absolve you :)

All, this thread will only work if folks believe they can admit to instances of poor etiquette without the burning torches & pitchforks coming out

I thought it would be fun & of interest, to see what actually goes on out in the real world of golf, hope more contributions come in

There was a case at a local course near me a couple of years ago, when a guy was trying to hurry up the group in front by whacking balls around there heads, he spent the next 8 weeks in hospital

Probably the worst thing I do is suffer from severe Tourettes outbursts after particularly bad shots. Smiffy thought we were going to get chucked off St. Mellion because of my "pottymouth"! :o
Possibly guilty of not being entirely ready to take my shot on occasion.

Other than that, I think I'm fairly well-behaved. Always rake bunkers and repair pitchmarks.

Richart might want to suggest that my using a hybrid off the tee and sending it soaring down the middle of the fairway, close to the length of his drive is poor behaviour! :p ;)

I rake bunkers, repair pitch marks and replace divots. I always turn my phone off before the first tee. I put my fag ends in my pocket until I get to the next tee so I do not litter my course. I always stand still when passing people on other holes that are playing shots so my clubs banging around does not put them off. I wave faster groups through when possible. I never throw my clubs and drop kick balls into the river after a bad shot. I do not shout and swear at the top of my voice. I do not lean on my putter on the green and do not step on other peoples lines. If I have ever broken any of these then I do apologize as it was not on purpose. I was just being honest about something that I have done in the past, but hey it was only ever done due to other people showing poor etiquette wasn't it.

I know what you mean. I keep looking outside my sitting room window for the burning torches and pitchforks. They are probably on their way here now......lol

Maybe it does not pay to be honest sometimes. The reaction it has got is one that says I do it for fun. I admitted to it on here cause I know it is poor form and not good etiquette.

I used wack my bag in frustration when I'd hit a bad shot, until one day I went to pull my 3 wood out at the next hole and the shaft was only 6 inches long, wont be doing that again

One of my mates use to hit the ground and his trolley with his clubs when he hit a bad shot until one day this happened. He had hit a bad shot on the previous hole and like usual decided to try and dig a trench out of a hard fairway by smashing his club into it. The next hole was so funny I nearly fell over and I am sure I had a little wee in my pants... He used the same club and as he hit the ball his clubhead ended up going further than his ball. The previous hole he had knackered his shaft hitting it on the ground and it snapped about 3 inches from the clubhead as he struck the ball. Does not do it anymore since that day........

All of it really. Potty mouth, broken clubs, losing clubs in trees, losing rakes in trees trying to retrieve said clubs, playing out of turn, being miserable, not replacing divots (sometimes they go so far I can't find them), talking when others are playing. Heck, I'm amazed anyone still plays with me.

Saying ditto isn't a breach of etiquette unless its done on a backswing ;)

My brother (in his rookie year just now) has been close to smashing his clubs on a number of occasions this season as the frustration gets to him, it's only a matter of time.....

Now that is a confession :o:D

Fixed that for you Bratty. Oh and you do have a 'pottymouth'.:lol:

I must be very boring as I can't think of anything in particular. No doubt those that I have played with on here might have something else to say.

Tourettes - guilty
helicoptering clubs - guilty
wacking my trolley/bag - guilty
throwing a perfectly good ball 100 yds into no mans land after a bad hole - guilty

everything else I am a model golfer :)

i am REAAAALLLLLY sorry, but i have to admit, that i don't enforce dress code rules when others do not quite come up to the club's very high standards

i must do better

Talking to myself after a bad shot as if a third person or humming a tune as i putt or have been known to sing ( dont know im doing it ) a bit off putting for my playing partners and do get the occasional "will you F****N SHUT UP!!!!!!" on second thoughts on reading this i sound a rite nutter.
