Sadly I think Hodgson is stalling on a Liverpool announcement in case Capello goes as I'm sure he'll get the nod. Not good from a Fulham perspecitve but I think he's an old fashioned English manager who knows the world game (he's on Fifa's advisory panel) and will play to our strengths. If he can gel a side like he did with Fulham then perhaps we'll have half a chance.

I think some of the reaction is OTT. We didn't play well throughout and were outclassed by all accounts (didn't see it) but the bottom line is we aren't good enough and the sooner the media, public, FA et al realise this and stop the over-inflated hype the more chance the side can go out and perform like they did in qualifying

I'm not too dissapointed as I never thought we had a chance anyway, thought we might do a bit better though. I'm just glad I don't support a premiership team and so line the pockets of these tossers.

I do find it amusing though that all the Jocks can do is support anyone who we play against and and revel whenever we fail, I hope the Scottish team enjoyed yet another summer off before returning to their highly competitive 2 bit part time fine fare league. Reminds me of the Euro Champs play off a few years ago when we won 2-1 on agg but all they could do was crow about beating us at Wembley, completely failing to grasp that it was over TWO legs and they lost!

I've witnessed more commitment , pride and passion from Steve Redgrave and Mattew pinsent rowing for Gold ..

Than that Current England team they just simply didn't turn up period . Players should be taken a right good look at themselves because they let down the travelling support and failed to thank them for it as well ..

Fun police alert...

Great to see Capello who was a god 4 weeks ago is now being hounded. The fact is the team is nowhere good enough no matter what the several deluded fans think.Best league in the world, aye that'll be the imports that make it that.

It would be difficult to explain why we Jocks feel the way we do - nothing to do with the English or the English team - all to do with the media HYPE we have to put up with in an ongoing manner for weeks before and .....44 years after, the event!!

The Premiership, with the English team players in it, is superb BUT your team is not world class.

Don't believe the nonsense the pundits spout, they have their jobs to think of and will say what they think you want to hear.

Auburn Warrior - I feel your hurt - you sound like someone who has prepared for a big comp only to N/R at the first. Sore?? You better believe it!!

Homer - This is a super offering and sums up the situation well but must be difficult for any English person to state.

The Future - Stick with your manager, stand back from the problem and attack the required surgery a bit at a time.

Conclusion - Learn from it, players and fans alike. Turning up entitlies you to sweet fanny adams. Change from within, lose the big headed nonsense and fight for the cause.

Positives - you must finish with one of those....your fans were so well behaved..not one arrest despite the downers!

As a sweaty sock with an English dad, I'm surprised and a wee bit saddened for the english folk I know who have followed football pre-murdoch and actually know and care about the game.
For anyone who's interest in football started when Sky TV rolled out and who have no concept of football before then, I'm delighted the media yet again hyped up a group of footballing mercenaries well beyond their obvious team abilities.

As for the natural digs at my fellow country men who are enjoying the current inquest, as a footballing nation we know our place in the grand scheme and the removal of the Sky TV money would see English football regressing back to where we are now.Consider the debt levels being heaved onto English football clubs, consider the huge numbers of foreign stars flowing into the EPL making it impossible for english players to play at higher levels and improve. With the existing taxation levels on footballers it's making your hollywood league less attractive when Spanish,Italian and even russian leagues are nicer prospects for footballing mercenaries.

english media on TV,radio and print,English fans and English players need to take a reality check-your not that good and only Aussie money and foreign football mercenaries make your league what it is.

Personally, I'm looking forward to watching some more good football, and really dont care who wins as long as its entertaining.

As far as 'Managers' are concerned, I just dont buy into the 'he's crap' argument at all.
Capello was the Messiah, with an exemplary CV and has done all that was 'neccessary' to restore some Respect within the camp etc, banned the WAGS, etc etc etc. All good as far as I can see.

Even Steve Mc, who was humiliated by the country's media after our failings 2yrs ago, has gone on to claim firstly 2nd place in the Dutch League, and then win it in his 2nd year, with a team significantly less than their major Dutch opponents.
Now Wolfsburg have brought him in to re-gain them the league.....

So, the common demoninator's are...........a bunch of overpaid, egotistical, and really 'not as good as they think' individuals who consistently underchieve on the world stage.

For me, the problem lies in the fact that our 'Premier League' is so top heavy with 'World Superstars', and clubs just arent doing enough to encourage/develop/nurture young British talent.
The sooner we install a low limit to 'foreign players' that any team can field in the Premier League the better, and stuff the European Law that says we cant, its mad.

Even Cannavaro has publicly blamed the exact same thing for the Italians failings this year, and the Seria A probably has the highest % of home based players anywhere in Europe, so what chance do we have ?

In all honesty, I feel that Capello may well go anyway, and be quite happy to re-enter Club management, - with his credentials over the years, why the hell he'd want to continue flogging our own 'dead horses' is beyond me.

Footnote: Having said that, I dont understand why we call up possibly the BEST central defender in last years Prem league campaign, and then not let him come on to prove himself ????? *shakes head*
Oh, and hasnt Crouch got a history of scoring goals for England ?

The current trend of blaming England's failings on foreign players in the Premier League is very tiresome. If English players are good enough, they'll play and having more technical, better foreign players around them will only help them, not hinder them.

There is nothing wrong with the number of foreign players playing in England, if a player is good enough to be the difference in us winning the world cup he will make it through.

The actual problem is the way we treat the English players they are over priced over payed they think they have aleady made it when all they do is play football, there is no need to prove theselves because they are already treated like kings.
Go back to the 66 world cup side and I bet most of them had to work once they left football the average 19 yr old now days is already on his 2nd Aston Martin

Capello has admitted 442 doesnt work so he has opted instead for a 747.

As it has been said many times before the Scots get the hump with the media. I dont think you would find 80 English people out of 100 who actually thought they could win, they probably all wanted them to win but EVERY sinlge paper and sports commentator was saying it as if it were definite knowing if the team failed it was their discgrace and not the ones who over hyped a team with more pressure heaped on it than any other.

I also think it was a shocker not giving the likes of Dawson and Hart a run out as both shone in good teams this year where as Upson was dreadful and even Hammers fans had a pop at his fitness and ability to fight it out and James played in a team that got relegated .... his confidence would have been on its 4rse.

We can ignore all the Scottish comments, their team weren't there, they struggle to beat Macedonia and their domestic league - well, there's rumours that it's merging with the Welsh league to try and strengthen it.

EH??? Take manu and chelsea out of the equation then at least another team stands a chance there only are maybe three teams that realistically can win it, as for its a struggle to beat Macedonia what about Slovenia and Algeria from a team that was certain to be in the semis?

The sheer arrogance from some England fans is staggering.

Madandra, seems I owe you an apology  maybe you weren't talking rollocks after all.

I couldn't believe what I witnessed yesterday. I agree with most of what has already been said, and include all you Scots in that.

Two things that stood out compared to the German side.

1. Our complete lack of fitness.

2. Our defence, completely bereft of any discipline.

To which the Germans took advantage of with intelligence and ruthless efficiency.

When Capello was appointed I thought, great, we'll now have a defence with Italian mentality and will play the ball on the ground and through midfield. How wrong was I?

Everybody in the England set up should take equal blame and hopefully, hopefully, lessons have been learned.

Hopefully an English Manager will be appointed and part of his starting brief should be "Youth and fitness". Obviously a lot more needs changing but that's a good start,IMHO.

IMO fabio has to go not because hes become a bad manager over night he can only put the players out there that hes sees week in week out and daily at training, however the problem then arrises when plan A doesnt work.Im a massive fan of wayne rooney but i would have taken him off he was clearly not at the races and probably not over his ankle injury, the next manager will have to have balls and start dropping the big names it might get a posotive reaction from others who think they are guaranteed a starting place.

OK, strip away all the hype and this was just a game of football. We didn't get battered at all, goals change games and if Lampard's clear goal had stood England would have had the upper hand going into the second half. That isn't an excuse, it's a FACT.

Yes there was some shoddy defending first half giving Germany a 2-0 lead but we came back well. Germany shut up shop and hit us on the break very effectively but at 2-2 the game would not have played out like that and we would have had every chance. The Germans were not that good and I'll be very surprised if Argentina don't beat them easily on Saturday. 4-1 was no reflection on the balance of the match.

However, whats done is done. Clearly everything is not good in the camp and Capello must take the blame for that. We were probably lucky not to go out in the group stage like Italy. My own feeling is that much of this began with the John Terry affair and the decision to take the captaincy off him must rank as one of the worst ever by an England manager.
