Finally a performance we can be proud of.I know its only one good game out of three but you dont win the cup in the group stages, perhaps now we can throw away the shackles and win this thing, what were your thoughts on the game?

Let me get this straight, from an outsiders perspective, England still played pretty bad, 1-0 against a pretty poor Slovenian team isnt too much to be fanatical about and it certainly wouldnt bring you to a world cup semifinal never mind the final but being fair it wasnt too bad considering what has dogged the england camp over the last few days. Congrats anyway :D

Certainly not a perfect and mistake free performance by any means, but I believe that we will only get better and the key thing is that we now have the belief that we can do this.

Things to think about/remember:

-Most of the "top seeded" teams have had a pretty shocking group stage. France, gone. Germany, quite possibly gone tonight and looked awful in their last game. Spain, lost to Swizterland FFS! Brazil, looked ordinary against N. Korea and started to turn it on. The Argies look good, but don't look that dangerous.

-The Slovenians, although a weak team have their strength at Goalkeeper and he was the only reason we didn't have 5 or 6.

-If Fabio keeps the same team, the timing of the passes and fluidness will only get better.

-Fabio's demeanour. Did you see his post match interview? I've NEVER seen him so emotional! This team is FINALLY playing AS A TEAM and not a bunch of jumped up prima donnas going through the motions. I think they've finally got the memo about how much it means to represent your country at the World Cup. Each and every player played their hearts out for 90 minutes.

-Rooney has yet to score. As soon as he does, I think you'll see the flood gates open. (Same with Messi though!)

Make no mistake, we've far from won it and need to step it up a notch or two to continue our run, but I do think we have a good shot. Just a shame the Yanks pipped us at the post, as we have got a potentially ridiculous route to the final, but if we make it, by God we've earnt it!

Admittedly the scoreline doesn't look convincing but apart from two late chances, which were brilliantly blocked in the first instance and a great tackle by Upson, the English did enough to win with some degre of comfort. Much better going forward although two small strikers didn't seem to be much better than a lumbering fool and Rooney. Great finish by Defoe and some other decent passing and movement.

It'll be much harder whoever we play on Sunday and should we win then a game against Argentina will probably be a bridge too far

Absolutely loved Terry's diving header to try and block out the flurry of shots towards the end. That was sheer commitment!!!!

I think the Good think about the group stages for england are they have been pretty good in defence only 1 goal conceded is good and that one was a blunder bt on the other hand only 2 goals score is dreadful for a team with what is supposed to be one of the best attacks in the tourney.

Keep going like this and its out on pens to the germans!!

I actually think that we have a better chance against Germany than we would have had against a lesser team.
The arrogance and mentality of the players would have had a detrimental effect had we been playing Australia.
At least against Germany, the players KNOW they have to be on thier game and Germany are very beatable.

I aren't getting excited yet or flag waving, after Sunday, it may change OR the LOSERS will be coming home.

Before I get shot down, i'm a patriotic as the next man, just feel a little let down by them at the moment

I agree Germany are perfect for England, however due to USA scoring we have a much harder route to the final, and imo if we win it from here we will forget all about the first two games and finally put 66 to bed.

Is that a promise??????

I'm sick to the back teeth of hearing what happened 45 years ago.

I had a brilliant round of golf 13 years ago. I don't keep on about it.

Is that the one you was telling me about at Nairn. You said you remember you had hit one over 180yds, i'm sure that's the round :D ;)
