ecco shoe sizing

I'm pondering getting a pair of Ecco spikeless shoes and was wondering how they come up for size against other brands as I'd be ordering online.

All the Ecco shoes I've had - and that's quite a few - have been absolutely spot on for size. Adidas are the only ones I've had to 'adjust' - upwards.

Using the European sizings I come up exactly the same in Ecco as I do in Footjoy.

My size 9s seem at least a half size bigger than other makes, I bought mine on line and regretted it pretty soon.
At first they seemed very comfy, but after a few rounds I found the excess leather on top creased and cut in just above my toes. I'd advise getting fitted or try a size smaller.
I'm left with almost new shoes that cost £150 that i can't use unless I have 3pair of socks on.

I've always found Ecco sizes to be spot on. Exactly the size I would expect them to be.

Well, I'm an 11, which equates to a 46 in Footjoy sizing, and I take a 46 in Ecco, which they list as an 11 - 11.5. They seem marginally larger than Footjoys, although this might be explained by Ecco's fitting method, described at the bottom of this link;

there can be the odd difference depending on style. i have a pair of the ecco bio M with the spikes in 44 wore them from day one and are like slippers. i got the same shoes, but in the goretex, again in 44. these are a bit on the tight side and have been wearing them in on the range.

Edit -BTW mine are Ecco Tour Hybrid .

after reading through the responses I'm certain I'm going to drive the 90 miles to ensure I get the correct size - what's 2 hours of my time to ensure hopefully a couple of seasons comfortable shoes.

Will do , I know I could order online and send back if they didn't fit but I'll go in person to ensure there right the first time , let the mrs wild in the Trafford center and make a day of it .

Yes I tried a few different insoles but no joy. I also made and fitted a internal plastic toe cap that stopped my feet being cut, but felt a bit odd.
I think there just a size too big.
