Selling a few bits and bobs and someone nicely decides to bid a buy a very cheap item... sinmple thats how ebay works, but the customer isnt aware he has to pay for it.

So, i contact my-ebay to open an unpaid item dispute, apparently you now get one month to pay for something before a case can be opened.

hang on... he can buy an item for less than a 10'er and get a complete month to make payment before i can open a case....:temper:

ebay.... what are you thinking.... seriously.

Which is why I tend to use Friday Ad's to sell stuff. It's locally advertised so you mostly get people picking it up and giving you the cash, much easier.

Got a load of stuff I'm putting up for sale in the next few weeks, so will be using Friday Ad's to do so.

eBay has become more hassle than it's worth for buyers.

the problem is its all motocross stuff, so generally people are not so local that want the gear. ebay is ideal for punting stuff on cheap, but some of the hassel has become a right pain in the prostate!

cant you say in your FS conditions that anything not paid for within 48hrs will be offered to the next highest bidder or relisted? It does seem ridiculous and basically anyone can stop you selling for a whole month!

ive started listings things in a different manor,

buy it now (what id like), with the option to accpet offers (as people seem to love the fact that they can make an offer rather like asking for a price to pull from ebay) and i also add Auto accept offers over ( and see a limit thats id be willing to take somewhere between rock bottom and my buy it now)

what does me with this is how can someone bid on something, then be allowed to not pay for 1 month, its a piss take.

i got totally p**sed off when i cleared the garage of all the extra clubs and bags earned a few bob then seen most of it whipped off me in fees .
they take a fee to list
a fee at the end
and then have a cheek to take a fee for them paying when the only way you can sell things now is by using their paypal so you end up giving nearly 20% to them

Pretty fed up with American business's in general... They give out the messages that they want to be our mates but they don't really mean it... Otherwise why would they be treating one of our fellow citizens so appallingly...
I am in the the market for a new pair of golf shoes but I'll not be considering purchasing any of the american brands! Google can shove their services right up where the sun don't shine as far as I am concerned also!...

I still use Ebay a lot, very good for buying, for selling the stealth fees do creep up and you do lose a lot but you just need to price things to take that into account and try to list on free listing weekends.
Nowhere else do you get such a huge worldwide market at your fingertips for selling.

Ebay certainly seems to be heading towards what I'd been told they were trying to do - to create an online market for the large players (like Tesco etc). Smaller casual users are being pushed off by the fees, towards Gumtree - which is apparently owned by them too so will probably start charging once they've achieved their target 'balance'.

Always best to list an item for 10 days, then say you'll consider offers in the listing.

Once you get messages/offers make it clear you'll accept a bid off ebay and payment can be cash on collection or over Paypal. So you use Ebay as your shop window and pay the listing fee (tiny amount) but when you sell, you avoid paying the 10%.

WOW -- Im shocked
Last Time I checked , you could Open Up an UNPAID ITEM DISPUTE after 7 Days...........

Surely it Cant have changed to a Full Month..........Thats a Joke

I use ebay loads, Buying & Selling.........( Still got loadsa golf gear in the garage ).......
And my Pet Hate is the AR**HOLE guys on there that email ridiculous offers, those that ask half dozen questions......then No Bids, and worst of all the ScumBag Non Payers

And the Fees are a Joke right Now..........10% selling fees

No other auction place anywhere is so stacked heavily against the seller
Go to a Car auction, seller pays fee, Buyer pays a % £££ of purchase price , both sides pay
Same goes for buying Horses , Greyhounds , ( my own experience ) , furniture, art, etc, etc, etc.......

Ebay is so one sided ............BUT.......... I still do it

As I still have a few items listed thought I'd have a quick read of 'help topics' regarding non-payers [just in case] and it still indicates un-paid disputes may be opened 4-32 days after auction end ... Having said that I've been 'lucky' in that I have only ever had one 'buyer' welch on payment... Had a lot cancel bids which really winds me up but hardly e-bays fault...

Despite my earlier rant [to give a balanced arguement]... In the scheme of things e-bays fees are in keeping with the market... My local auction houses charge 17% and when we sold my late Mothers household items thru' a local [to her] clearance auctioneers despite a fairly high initial fee to clear Mums home they still wanted 20% of final sale values... Bit hefty to say the least and they were one of the cheaper to quote us!

Most expensive item I have sold thru' e-bay was a pedal cycle for £1800... At the time their final fee was capped at £70 which equates to 4%[ish] fee not unreasonable in my opinion...

I was shocked when I tried to open a late payment dispute when the message come up about being late march before I could do so, maybe it goes on the item value

.

I think it is eBay's fault.
They shouldn't allow retraction of bids unless there are exceptional circumstances - and I mean exceptional.
It states quite clearly when you make a bid that you are entering a contract - this is obviously nonsense if you're able to retract the bid.

A I said earlier, all the protection is aimed squarely at the buyer. The seller has to take all the crap and hope to come out of it with some money.

If only it wasn't so damn convenient....

Imurg.........Totally Agree

Buyers are allowed to Retract Bids, one reason being, BUYER ENTERED WRONG AMOUNT
Now this is Fine, if the Buyer then entered another Bid, by that I mean 'CORRECT BID' amount
But they are allowed to use this as an excuse , and NOT place another bid
TOTALLY WRONG
TOTAL COP OUT BY EBAY
