Easy Access for Bandits

I received an e-mail today offering me an "official" handicap which seems to be based on entering your scores. How on earth will this be verified and seems a cheats charter.

I'd hope competition organizers would let it be known, where competitions require an entrance fee to participate, whether or not these 'Micky Mouse' handicaps are accepted.

I'd not be flushing my money down the drain competing against good players playing off a false 28!

I can just see the faces on the guys who've flown all the way to Portugal being told to ferk off after showing these!

Hello, is that Direct Golf? They won't let us on, blub blub. Can you tell them they're bona fide certs, please. Sorry, we can't help you!

I agree there needs to be something for the non-members to be able to play some decent courses but I also understand the courses not wanting any old hackers ripping things up.

This offering from DG is just a money making scheme. Yes, it really is!

I've entered a couple of Opens this year, and wanted to have entered a few more.
All of them stipulate that your handicap must be CONGU recognised. They won't take one of these Cornflake Packet certificates.
If it ain't CONGU, you ain't coming in
:D :D :D :D

CONGU or nothing at my club, and our handicaps are true as can be - mate of mine gave three cards in, 99, 102, 106 on a par 70 course, the result? 24!!

my handicap is calculated using golfshake and they seem to be accepted at quite a few clubs although I don't play in comps so have never tried to use it in one.
You won't be able to play Opens with one of those.

I signed up on there through my society and a few clubs have offered us associated memberships through them to get congu recognised.

I think people use the term bandit too readily. I don't know any other amateur sport where people effectively accuse the majority of people who beat them as being a cheat. Especially at a sport where winning (stableford at least) isn't actually winning in the strictest sense!

The point is, you can play to a reasonable standard, say 10 handicap, put the cards in artificially high and get a handicap of around 18 and then have all the extra shots to play with in competitions. That is a true bandit.

I'll be honest, i really don't worry about beating my partners etc - im normally locked in a battle with myself to either be consistant or better my last score.

The lower the better for me.

Are there any other amateur sports that have a handicap system?

I meant in terms of other sports don't regulate ability or make plans accordingly to create a balance. The point I was trying to make is golf is almost too fair for its own good, stableford is a great system but it causes a hell of a lot of paranoia and finger wagging!

I dont know any true bandits and I've been playing 36 or so years. I know a few guys who've had a mad round, get cut, and cant play for their life after that.
