Earliest sporting/golf memory

scotland 1978 world cup getting humped 3-1 from peru and watching cubilas score a wonder free kick which left alan rough for dead

not really the first memory so not sure if it counts, but it had the deepest impact - the Munich plane crash. I was 10, and like a lot of kids then Man U was, if not your first team then your second.

Scotland v Sweden September 81 in a WC Qualifier at Hampden.....82000 there to witness a 2-0 victory with goals from big Joe and the fat winger............we were decent then. ;)

Golf wise it must be 1985 Ryder Cup...Fither let me bunk off School on the Friday to watch it....he was a school governor at the time, would you no get time for that now??!!

I'll add a further memeory. I recently saw a memorial plaque to Jim Clark, the motor racing driver, in the chapel at Loretto School in Musselburgh. I can vividly remember the night that news of his accident and untimely death came through on the old black & white telly in the corner of the living room. That was way back in April 1968.

How many of todays F1 drivers would go out of their way to drive a race in a lesser formula ?

The 1972 Champion's Cup final between Inter and Ajax. Golfwise it was Hale Irwins US Open win in 1990 (no live golf in TV before that in Austria), I started to play a year after that

Not the earliest but the one that had the most impact was David Platts winner against Belgium in Italia 90. Floated in by Gazza and a perfect volley when a goal was required.

old firm scottish cup final, Celtic won 1 -0 George mccluskey scored and there was a riot on the park after the game, i was 7 years old standing in hampden bricking it.

golf - tiger winning his first masters

Does seeing "Back Home" on Top of the Pops in 1970 count?

If not then Chelsea Leeds Cup final. Live it would be Bolton vs Walsall in about 1973 at Burnden Park

First great football memory was George Best going round the keeper and slotting home in Man Utd '68 European Cup win - genius!

Gazza's flick over Colin Hendry and smashing it in the net, against Scotland.

Golfing memory would have to be the last 2 European Ryder Cup wins.

Athletics: - Sebastion Coe at the Moscow Olympics winning the 1500 metres, especially when he was tipped for the 800.

My own personal: - Completing the '92 London Marathon in under my target time of 4 hours - 3hrs 46mins actual, without any stops.

Golfmmad.

Spain 82, was 11 and reenacted every game/goal in the field opposite our house with my mate Mark, Brazil was our favourite with Zico, Socrates etc, a truly great side

Golf is probably Seve, not an individual event but my mum and aunt thought he was gorgeous!!

For me it would be watching my dad play rugby, our family was centred around the local rugby club.

Golf wise I never really watched it until the mid 90s so its mostly tiger coming up and winning everything.
