Driving Range "Pros"

i had a range "pro" last night. Mrs Dando was out so i decided to spend an hour or so on the range as i hadn't picked up a club in about 5 weeks. As i stand the other side of the ball there is only 1 lefty power tee at this particular range which is off to one side and normally pretty quiet. anyway after warming up and working my way through my bag i grab my 3 wood and hit some decent shots (long with a slight draw) only to be told by some stranger that my swing is wrong, so is my grip etc - basically everything about my golf game needed to be changed. In all honesty i'm surprised he didn't try and give me life style advice as well.

after telling this guy that i am 100 self taught and that i know i have faults (i know my swing well enough to know whats gone wrong on the bad shots) which is why i am at the range practicing. he said "well if your nor prepared to listen you'll never make it on Tour" then walked off!

Given that i play off 14 and am 40 years old i had kind of worked that out for myself!

I was working on something a few months ago when some nob in the next bay started telling me what I was doing wrong. After I said politely that I was just working on specifics, he came back with "that's a waste of time, have you ever won anything worthwhile". "Yeah three club championships here" ........ 10 second silence. he went back, duffed two more balls and then left leaving a load of balls in the bay. I did laugh.

I would have said the US OPEN just to fk with him

I just can't believe that these people actually exist.

I've spent quite a lot of time (wasted mostly :D) at a number of ranges, and I've never encountered anyone like the people being described here, thank goodness!

Me neither.

It's the same as boy racers that want to take you on at the lights because you've (I've :o) got a hairdresser's car.

Never had either.

Oh yes. 120k miles and still runs great.

Not a boy racer's car though
I doubt they'd afford the insurance!

im into cars and 23, i get called a boy racer even though i hate the tag... more of a car enthusiast than a chav in a corsa :rofl:but im really curious as to what car it is!

It's only a Leon. My mate calls it a hairdresser's car but I've never heard anyone else call it that.

I bet more people off here know me for the colour of my car than the golf I've played with them! :D

its not convertible so you're safe ;)

Oi! Are you knocking my MX-5?

The odd thing about an MX-5 is that I can get my bag in the boot (and trolley) without removing the driver. Many of my mates with more 'sensible' cars can only dream of that! Obviously I can only get one bag in, and it's a pull trolley, but still...

Really? I never put my clubs in the boot. Just the trolley and bar shoes. Sad thing is hair dressers know good cars ! Ever look at hot hatch with a wing and think "pram" ?

Is it a mk1 mx5?! I seem to recall my old one having a boot the size of a child's lunchbox

Im afraid im about to climb on my soapbox and have a bit of a rant.

Driving range "pro's", now it doesnt happen too often but it annoys me every time. I'll be at the range and up he rocks, you know the type. Head to toe in Titelist/Taylormade etc. as though he's been covered in glue and just run through the pro shop. Sets down his tour bag of new clubs and grabs his driver.

Happened the other week. I was hitting really nice shots, good distance, straight or a gentle fade and during a break he says "you'll never play good golf with that swing" refering to my Don Trahan swing. I shrug it off and watch him go through his practice swing, "i'll show you the correct way" he says. Skulls his driver 50yds along the floor. I almost wet myself!

Is it just me that these guys choose the bay next to or do they stalk any of you guys?

Everyone is a Pro at the driving range just a shame they can't take it onto the course
