I'm only 5'6 and have been using a burner superfast for last 4 month, and I am suspecting that the longer shaft length (46.25 inch) is encourgaing an out-to-in swing and thus a common slice.

Any other short folk out there experence similar issues with long shafted clubs? I didn;t realise when I bought it at the time that it was almost 2 inch longer than average driver shaft length.

I am 5'10" and bought the Superfast Burner 2.0 in march. I knew the shaft was longer than standard but went for it anyway as it promised more length.
I have always struggled with a bit of a slice and the pro at the course I use (not a member yet) who is an official Taylormade stockist said that the combination of the longer shaft and lighter weight will almost definately worsen a slice. You are forsaking accuracy for distance basically. I sold the club and bought an R9 Supertri and I am hitting it much straighter.

sounds similar to me! I traded in my R7 for the new Superfast Burner and found I lost all accuracy off the tee. So sold it and replaced with my old R7 and striking it so much better now.
I hit it long anyway and accuracy is more key for me scoring well!

Can you not just grip down it an inch? I have a superfast and can hit a long draw with it all day.I grip down on it a little too sometimes. Dont be blaming the tools!

6'2" and mine goes long and straight main issue is it doesn't fit in the car boot anymore!!

Without wanting to hijack the thread did you find the original grip to be sh*te - hit 50 balls at the range with it first time out and it's rubbing up badly

Standard grip is worse than awful, I couldnt keep the ball on the course the first and only weekend I had the standard grip on it, Ballyliffin was the weekend too....

I find that I have to be very rigid in my back swing in order to avoid an out-to-in swing. just feel like im not getting over it enough. I will try and set up for draw fir every shot until I get the chance to try out something new, swinging around my front leg more will get ride of the out-to-in motion I guess.

Did you see the tennis tip in this months mag - imagine you're hitting a topspin forehand, tried it tonight and had a lovely draw going, might be worth a try

I think I will be ditching the superfast for a more traditional and forgiving driver.

Dont know what your handicap is and how often you play but like most things I would suggest you go to a reputable fitting centre for a custom fit to try and sort your problem out :)

My Dad had the grip on his SFB replaced after 6 months. He wore away the rubber right down to the cord under his left thumb. He's hitting it a lot better now that he's not worried about helicoptering it down the fairway.

I try to play every weekend, and have been playing for 6 months, and while my irons are really coming along I still slice my driver or hook it when I try to compensate. Had some lessons, and sometimes I can hit it beautifully. I once hit my driver around 280 yard. But I just feel that I'm not getting over the ball enough. A custom fitting for xmas sounds good :)
