At our club, every comp is run on a random draw entry system.

Tomorrow, my dad and his PP (pairs comp) have been drawn with 2 chaps who cant play without a buggy and there's a buggy ban in place - so they will withdraw.

What happens to my dad and his pp? Because previously they've been removed from the comp because of this issue occurring and I don't see that as right? Surely they should just form a 6 ball with the next group along?

Any help appreciated!

The committee should arrange for a marker to go with them.

This would be the normal courtesy if the club was running a 4BBB Open competition. They wouldn't tell a visiting pair they couldn't play because opponents couldn't play.

We dont have visitors at our place for comps, only members? Make any difference?

No difference imo. At our place, if there are any late withdrawals or an odd number of pairs, the club puts out an email for someone to play as a single and mark their card.

In an ideal world. My partner & I have been left high & dry in a Summer open & the same thing happened to a mate of mine. In another case, the starter simply moved forward two from the next group, which possibly just postponed the problem. A club tried to separate us once but we were playing with people we didn't see very often & we refused to change.

Don't think a six ball is a particularly good idea.

It would be common courtesy for one of the members to walk round and mark their card. When did the buggy ban start? Surely they should have withdrawn immediately the ban came in.

Whilst irrelevant to your problem, around 12 years' ago, the other 4BBB did not turn up at West Lancs GC, class course. They let us go alone and you guessed it, we won with 43 points on a card play off!

Our buggy bans are on a day to day basis according to course conditions.

One of the pair who can't play without a buggy could walk the course; not play, but mark the card. Maybe one does it for one 9 the other for the other 9.

That may be a practicable solution but the competition organisers should have anticipated situations where teams don't turn up or can't play for some reason.
They have an obligation to the pair ending up without opponents when it is not their fault.

I do recall such occasions at my place and all that happened is that the club managed to find another two members to play - even though they might not play in the comp. Not difficult to email all members such a request.

So after a long "discussion" yesterday morning upon his arrival - Dad and his PP were put into a 6 ball.

Committee were trying to say they couldn't play, but thanks to a bit of advice shared by some of you - they did get to play.

And they also won the comp!

I think that's a win for the forum too really!
