Draw Bias Driver, should I...?

Hi folks...
As much as I like my Ping, and when I get it right it's the greatest feeling, it's now becoming a real card wrecker. My bad shot is high and right off the tee which is putting me into some shocking parts of the course making it extremely difficult to put a score together.
I'm now wondering, after hitting my Dad's TaylorMade draw bias driver, if I should put one in the bag until such time that I'm hitting the Ping well again...?

Before any of the forum curmudgeons ( ;) ) bemoan my query, I'm taking lessons at the moment and I'm working on changing my swing, and for the most part it's working. However, the driver is getting worse and being unable to find the fairway really getting me down.

Over to you for advice and recommendations...

Cheers

Sack it & use a 3 wood, I finally did this a few weeks ago & what a difference. There's not much loss of distance but it is way more accurate.

fwiw, I got rid of my draw bias (TM r7 11.5 regular) as I seemed to be fighting with it. now using r7 limited 11.5 stiff, and while I can be downright awful, it's better than before.

my awful seems mostly to be due to a wandering set-up

SB. You'll get a tidal wave of naysayers, doom mongers, pessimism ponies and halo-wearing golf gods along in no time talking of the end of the world and other nonsense. Don't listen to them.

I have 3 drivers, one draw, and can hit them all. NO problem whatsoever. UNLESS your bad shot is a hook, you might find a draw driver offers you a small improvement. If it suits you, why not? However, with respect to your OP, I just can't see how massive "going right!?" problems can/will be fixed overnight with the sticking plaster of a draw driver. Work as hard as you can on your swing and maybe not even carry a driver for a while. Draw drivers i.m.o. cannot fix anything other than a stock shot that drifts marginally right (like I tend to hit). Please don't rush into it, whatever you choose.

Thanks fellas...

I'll maybe leave the driver in the bag and take the 3 wood off the tee until things improve at the range.

Dave, I started thinking about the draw driver because I have about twenty hits with my dad's club that went pretty well.

I've got a lesson tomorrow so I'll see what happens and ask the pro for advice.

just play through it. it is a phrase that you hope you grow out of. I play everyday and most of the time i hit a good drive however occasionally i'll hit what you are talking about but just ignore it and just try to hit through the ball sending it on its way

What about picking up a cheap draw bias to use whilst you are going through the swing changes then swap back to the Ping when you feel ready.

I am a bit the other way around, I have a draw bias that I use at the moment but have a cheap driver without it that I practice with and, when I have time, plan to use in lessons. May be wrong but my thought is that if I start hooking the draw bias it is time to move on to a neutral but until then the draw bias keeps me nearer the short stuff

Bob, not had a lesson on the driver yet but I assumed (rightly or wrongly) that as my swing improved with irons so the driver would get better too. The irons are going very much better, as is chipping and I've improved my putting no end. However, not finding the short stuff off the tee is like playing with one hand tied behind my back...

I've noticed that you're going to be in Scotland during the Open week...? Well, i'm going to be in Kinross for my mates wedding on the 17th so if you pick me up at 10ish there's a driving range just down the road.

;)

If I give a course of lessons to someone, the driver is the last lesson.
Hopefully, by then the short game (short swing) lessons will start to influence the long game swing.
Tell your pro the problems your having and I'm sure he'll get it sorted.

Alas alas. I'll be driving down home on Friday the 16th so wont be able to see you on the Saturday.

Could your mate not move the wedding to the Wednesday? ;)

Having used a TM burner driver 10.5 for about 9 months decided to get a ping rapture 12.degree which I can hit longer than the TM,Saturday I Invested in a miz mx 700 3 wood and I cant beleive how staight Im hitting the ball without losing too much distance

my advice would be to not do it, draw biase doesnt sound like a good way forward.

Use a 3 wood, or even a rescue (that'll get you to 200 yards i'd image), just keep it straight and in play. Card wreckers are the first thing an improving golfer should kirb, be it wild tee shots that go OOT or finding trouble elsewhere - anyone should be able to improve their course management.

i was going to post the same question. ive just bought a 3 and 4 hybrid mizuno draw biased. my thinking is buy a draw biased driver (so i can change my username :D)i hit the new hybrids straight EVERY time. i can smack my driver a mile but 7 times out of ten waaaaaaaaaaaay right. i think im losing about 30 yards. dont have time for lessons because of work.

Not directed at anyone in particular, but how come players that always struggle getting the face square look for answers in lessons and swing changes etc.
Surely, if you keep losing it right 9/10, why not just tweak your grip a little stronger (so the face is closed at address) and keep doing it until you are hitting half and half?

In one lesson I had years ago, the pro suggested I imagine I am holding a hose to water the garden. If the water is going to the right you would simply turn your hands to send it further to the left. Try it, it works.

im hoping to change my name to bigandlong, so i could practise this in the shower ;)

I use 3 wood and iv dropped the driver completely from the bag......Im much straighter and consistent with the 3v wood and i can pretty much put it where i aim....Something i could not do with the driver....Im plenty long with the 3 and until such time as my handicap starts coming down and my game starts to get some more consistency i will then buy a driver....Cobra S2 me thinks ....... I know one day i will eventually need one but think of it this way.......Think of the feeling everyone gets when they pure a driver....Chest out look at me!!!!!......Now think of that same feeling when you cream your 3 wood 30 or 40 yards past there driver distance.......Who's laughing now then.... :D :D :D
