DQ from the Comp for NR

Yeah Medal play

NR is then DQ

Three DQs add up to a HC freeze for us
Are you talking about the whole card being an NR?

I think the result you describe is fair for that. It's pretty much a hissy fit, vanity etc, if you refuse to put in a bad card.

If it is simply, 16th hole, you haven't scored well, you can't find your tee shot, you didn't play a provisional, I'd happily NR that hole but still put my card in. A HC freeze for that scenario would seem daft.

In a medal as soon as you NR that’s your scorecard NR’d within the results so a DQ

I think it’s too much of a hammer

It’s also something that can add to slow play issues with people not wanting to be DQ and walking back to tees etc

I think it is fair to be out of the comp, it's strokeplay not stableford after all, but I don't think it should be counted as a black mark. Not handing in the card, that's a black mark.

I should add, I'd be happy never to play another strokeplay comp again. Stableford every day for me, for this very reason. I'm not a devotee of Strokeplay.

Yeah that’s my thinking

Will have a revisit at our next meeting

It's NR not a DQ...getting DQd for it is ludicrous. Out of the comp - yes but DQ - No.
We get NRs virtually every Medal....they don't get a DQ...
DQ s are for not signing, not submitting the card etc etc....

  • Rule 3.3c of the rules of golf will be applied for future competitions and a failure to hole out in a medal competition will result in a DQ

Once you start a round for handicapping you are supposed to play every hole to the best of your ability.

After a "wipe" on a hole, you should continue the round scoring the lowest score you can on the following holes.

I believe there are words to this effect in Players' Responsibilities in the Rules Of Handicapping.

I do see one or two throwing in the towel after 9 or 13 holes (13th green is near the clubhouse)
I'm not sure what the club H&C committee does about this these days. I've never done it - so no personal experience.

NR for the card in a medal does not appear as DQ on the scoresheet at our club.

Surely it depends on the nature of the NR as to whether they're manipulating..
Drive into the 1st cut - shouldn't be a problem finding it so no provisional, get there and you can't find it...many won't walk back especially if pace is slow...
Is that manipulation?
You don't have to NR to manipulate...Just miss a few putts...impossible to prove....why go to the extent of NR....

A committee won’t have time to discuss with every person why they have NRd

And with it being 3 across a 12 month and we only have 2 medals a month - one midweek , its a big percentage of the medals to NR before it’s flagged

So they're assuming that everyone that NRs is a cheat?
That's pretty much what they're saying......
