Not the most enlightening of questions but seeing as range golf is all we're getting at the moment I thought I would ask about peoples footwear preferences at the range. Some people I see at various driving ranges wear normal trainers whereas others wear their proper golf shoes.
I myself am a golf shoe convert - I used to wear just normal trainers but now take my golf shoes to wear.

Whats everyones preference on this and thoughts on what difference (if any) it makes?

Cheers

Yeah, thats my thinking as well - wear my summer soft spike shoes and gets me in the right mindset straightaway - but I always see people (even what look like good, experienced golfers) that wear trainers/normal shoes so guess it probably just comes down to personal preference?

My golf shoes, slip all over the place without them, and the difference in height cocks up my swing.

A range at a club near me, which I use quite often, has signs up saying,
"Strictly No Golf Shoes Or Bags On The Range"

For this reason I normally wear trainers. Do you think it makes a BIG difference?

Any thing, but I draw the line at leather soles. They are truly slippy. I would rather practice in my socks than in leather soles.

Usually golf shoes, but sometimes others, if I don't have my fj's with me. Sometimes Cat boots too,

It depends the type of mats but I always find even with soft spikes you get some elevation on a mat and with metal spikes, which I have in at the moment, for definite. Hence I prefer trainers.

Personal choice really

I can't see this. I presume we're talking 'shed' ranges here, off mats so you'll be higher than normal wearing spikes as there's nowhere for them to 'bite' into.

Trainers for me at local ranges but shoes at the course range.

I wear the smae pair of trainers everytime,i worn the white leather off the front of my right trainer

Has that happened to anyone else?

It has happened to me with a pair of old FJ Fitdogs I use to prractice in. The leather is now right back to the plastic toecap and worn to the thread on the front spike. It is just due to constant dragging on the mat over the last 5 years or so

Whether it's golf course, practice ground or range, I dress for golf i.e. Polo shirt if warm enough, "proper" trousers - not jeans, and golf shoes. Part of the mind set I suppose.

Doesn't help me hit it any better though

Thats good thought it was just me,ill stick with trainers where i can dont wanna mess up my golf shoes

In the winter i go the range fully waterproofed up,2 reasons really

One to keep the wind chill off and to get used to playing in layers again

I wear my golf shoes, I want everything on the range to feel exactly the same as it does on the course and that includes footwear.

Golf shoes and golf top for me (one of those half zip jacket things).

Although strangely I wore trainers on Weds and Thurs and hit it very nicely!

Had two days of peace and quiet at the range just me a bucket of balls and a cold cold field.

It was bliss

Combat boots - well a cheap version of them.

Only dropped in to the proshop to get the driver re-gripped but spotted the range in use. I had my clubs, b****r the footwear - first chance in over a week.

Unfortunately that will last until the balls run out, the rest are in these little holes in the snow.

I use ranges but as little as poss, I always try to practice on the course doing what you do during a round, too much range work is playing the range not playing golf.
The range has its use and benefits but if it gets addictive there is a risk of becomming a range champion and golfing also ran. :D ;)
