Hi All,

I am a Nike hater when it comes to golf. Nike are a training shoe maker in my books, clearly this is just a perception thing as they are a world leader of sporting equipment but I wanted to make my point before starting the post.

I have been party to alot of Nike Golf reviews that I would usually avoid because Mark Crosfield has is now doing Nike Video reviews and I am a bit of a fan of his. It has become clear that Nike are pushing hard ( I am sure they always have been without me looking).

Nike VR Pro Driver with a stock PX shaft and a channel in the bottom of the club that I am told you can actually feel forgiving you if you hit the ball out of the bottom of the club. MC was so impressed with it he took the 910D out of his bag and went with the VR Pro Ltd Edition.

The VR Pro blades are stunning, I remember hitting Ricks some time back and was impressed and we have had nothing but good reviews from you forum members about the VR Pro Combo irons.

What stands out for me though and for me its a product that no other manufacture is doing(that I know of) is the VR S Forged irons. They are a Forged iron with a big cavity, mid/large head size and plenty of help. It is pretty ugly as Nike have put there engraving and guff all over it but they have made a stand and said why should only better players irons be forged!

I do wonder if it is hard to mill the cavity and if it is easy to bend said cavity if one is not careful but they have pulled it off and I give them props for it.

I am not rushing out to buy a set as I am not in the market but I would have to have a few hits if I were! Well done Nike.

What do you guys think?

Al

Erm...didn't Mizuno do a similar thing with the MX Series? Forged clubs with massive forgiveness.

When I read your thread title my initial thought was that it was going to be about their 2012 clothing range, so I guess I'm still where you are in terms of "Nike are a training shoe and clothing maker in my books".

When I think of equipment, they're never in the forefront of my mind although I do know of players that use them are are happy with them. Swinger being just one.

and the Cobra S2 forged wot I am currently hittin'

Agree though that Nike is a really strong player now in the equipment market. And they have finally realised that Europeans don't like clothing that flaps about and released the Sport range that fits properly!

BTW what happended to all those "Rory is joining nike" rumours that were doing the rounds... still one to happen next season?

Yep, for sure but they were still somewhat cross over GI/Players clubs. The MX 100 and now the JPX 800 are still cast and the first forged club that Mizuno do now is the JPX 800 Pro that has measurements very similar to the MP-53 or Ping i15.

PS Gareth .... That is RANK so I hope its the exception that breaks the rule! :D

I didn't even use to like Nike footy boots never mind their golf gear.

The more I try the more I'm impressed though. The irons I have are superb, wedge and fairways are very good aswell.

Also got the Lunar Control golf shoes which are excellent, the most comfortable golf shoes I've worn by quite some distance.

When I'm looking for any new clubs I'll definitely look at what they have to offer.

I love my irons. Not quite so keen on the wedges but I've not really got to know them as well as my previous ones yet.

If I was after a driver I'd definitely try the new Nike, but I've only had mine just over a year and hit it well enough so it can wait.

I've had drivers by TM, Callaway and Cobra however the original Nike VR Pro STR8 fit is the best driver I've had. I don't need to adjust it as I find it fine as it is and when I replace it, it will very likely be with another Nike.

Like the look of the Pro Combo irons and Nike do some very good shirts and jumpers at pretty competitive prices. Never been a fan of their shoes and found them a bit tight. Like their Platinum and Nike One balls too and tried one of the 20IX around the chipping green and it feels great off the club and the putter

Nike's golf clubs are now seriously good, both in looks and performance IMHO. A few years ago there were all about mass market appeal (sumo sq, etc) but now they are doing a range that satisfies all players. For me, I'd look at Nike before TM and Callaway.

I prefer the look of last years pro comb's as opposed to the newer models. Cant argue though that as a golf brand, their gear has been looking good for the last few of years.

Nike certainly have come on leaps and bounds and their Golf division have stopped thinking like their basketball division, that it is making hideous and overpriced shoes for street.

Never got on with their golf shoes, however my father-in-law has benefitted and still wears the TW Goretex pair I gave him many years ago.

Agree with the poster who commented on the clothing range being sized for the US. Too baggy and you have to size down.

Making some nice clubs as well now, never did get the thinking behind the SQ???
