Dog insurance

True. Took one of ours for his annual vaccinations last night. Was in for 10 minutes. One jab (L4) and the kennel cough spray, £110. I’m sure a couple of years ago it was £60.
Yes it's a rip off, needs regulation particularly the costs of prescription medication

We have the “pet health club”, about £21 per month.
Includes all flees and worms, vaccinations and 2 check ups twice a year.

Decent value as one of the fancy tablets cost about £40 each 3 months.

With our cats we bought a prescription and 3 bottles of arthritis medicine that cost just over one bottle the vet charged for one bottle.

Problem is that most vets are now corporate massive companies and they charge what they like.

We have to get apoquele and the vets is the same , like 3 x what we can get it elsewhere, but we still have to pay the vet for the actual prescription note and then send that to the online pet pharmacist.

Just rang the vet for a new prescription and its £57 for a health check a blood test on top then the prescription cost and on top of that they charge £7 per tablet on top of that ! Yes per tablet 😭

We were with PetWise as it was a good option for those with senior dogs. We were paying £75.00 per month with Frank who is 11 and has diabetes. At the last renewal the cost jumped to £3,500 for the year which made the decision very easy. We're now putting away £150.00 per month and hoping we build up enough before something big comes in. We are now having to fund his monthly insulin related medication ourselves.

Unfortunately with pet insurance, as soon as your pet develops any sort of medical issue they have you over a barrel. You cannot move to another insurer as they won't cover pre-existing conditions so you only have 2 choices, pay whatever premium is put your way or self insure.

Vets are also a massive racket when it comes to paying for medication. We buy Frank's insulin online for £35.99 for a 10ml vial, the same one from our vets is £74.99. I don't mind if there is a mark up but you can't tell me that they're paying the sort of level that means they have to charge that amount. Same for eye drops, £35.00 from the vets but online I can pick them up for £4.99. Being a vet is just a license to print money.

The PDSA were great for my mum. Whilst she didn't have to pay for the treatments, they always advised a reasonable donation cost for any procedure...
She used to always pay more than the proposed donation amount but it was obviously much less than a vet practice would've charged.

How did she qualify?

Great she got some help. 👍

My brother (sadly gone) had a cat that some low life shot managed to get free treatment at PDSA.
Thanks mate. Her dog was her life after my dad passed. It was a really sad day when we had to get her put down.. They were very good though..

That's so sad, regards your bro and his cat.. .there are some twisted people in this world..
