Hi dog owners
Who do you have your dog insurance with.
We have petsure at £66 per month
We used to have pet plan that wanted £90 pm
This to me sounds awfully expensive.
Any suggestions
We have a 6 year old Labrador

Animal friends were always reasonable when I had them however your getting to the age where premiums jump up

Ours is with waggle. About £20 per month but we have a £400 excess as it is there in case we ever get a large bill. We’ve never claimed on it.
Dog is a chihuahua coming up to 4 years old.

Ours is over £100pm now, our Lab is 12 so the premiums are quite high due to his age. We have claimed recently, and the vet has dealt with them directly and they've paid out quick, with LV.

Ditto in terms of dog, age and price. Animal Friends.

We had our French bulldog insured, had 2 hip operations when he was young (10 years old now)cost of over £3k.
Premiums went silly after that so I cancelled & put the money in a separate bank account now.
The mrs does the same for her horses.

That is what we did with our Staffies we had (1 at a time).

Did the same after getting stung with a massive excess on a bill for one of our Springers because he was older than 8. Put £100 into an account each month, soon adds up to a tidy sum.

That dog is long gone, but we have another 2 springers now, one is coming up for 12yo, the other is 18 months. I pay insurance for the young one as the premiums are cheaper (£20pm thru Now Pet) and he is more likely to do some damage to himself (total lunatic), but I stick £100 away each month for the older one, have never had to touch it.

It’s a bit of a gamble for a few years but luckily it’s paid off for us.

I've had dogs all my life and never had insurance. Border Collies, German Shepherd, Black Labs and Boxers. The only significant vet's bill was for the current Black Lab who swallowed half a dozen golf balls and had to have them removed surgically. The bill was around £2k but I'm still streets ahead of what I would have paid for insurance over the years.

Absolutely mental the price of pet insurance now,but when you look at what vets charge I suppose it’s understandable.

True. Took one of ours for his annual vaccinations last night. Was in for 10 minutes. One jab (L4) and the kennel cough spray, £110. I’m sure a couple of years ago it was £60.
Our vets does a lifetime vaccination package.
Works out loads cheaper.

How does that work? PDSA?
I’m not a huge fan of handing out freebies and would rather people (who could) made more effort to work but I don’t want any animals to suffer. 😢
Yeah,personally I think if you can’t afford a pet don’t have one.

Sounds like bs to me.
It's not as cut and dried as free vets if youre on benefits.
