Does know one carry there golf bag anymore

I'm 9 stone and I carry - perhaps I should get a trolley!! I like being able to walk where I like with my bag, I don't have to walk the long way around a green and have less kit to put in my car each time I play!

If it's just a social knock I'll carry. For a comp or if the weather is dodgy I'll use the trolly so I can put the stuff I need (waterproofs, gloves, towels etc) and not feel like a sherpa. I do seem to get more tired carry especially since the onset of diabetes. A carry bag fit neatly in my locker and so it lives there in the summer so I can commute from work and go at straight out

I have to disagree with you about not loosing weight. I have lost 12kg in 3 months, ever since i started to play again.
I do try and power walk round the course, and yes i walk over greens and i take my clubs on to the tee's. lol

LMAO if you call just under 3 stone not a lot, your on a different plant.......

I doubt that carrying your bag has made that much difference. If you've been playing regularly and power-walking around the course then that's what's seen the weight drop off.

I'm sure a test was done a few years back. They physically measured all sorts of things on 3 golfers - 1 carried, 1 trolleyed and 1 buggeyed...

Obviously the buggy player didn't burn anything up at all and the difference between the other 2 was so small as to not be worth it.
You're walking the same distance (ish) if you trolley or carry. The only difference is you have 20lbs of kit on your back if you're carrying. It is going to burn more calories but not a significant amount to make it a "fitness" thing to carry rather than trolley.

I still think that carrying has to put more strain on your back than pushing a trolley. The sheer fact that you have this 20lb (or whatever) on your back has to put extra pressure on your joints. Not necessarily enough to make it "bad" for you, but there has to be some.

And yes Bob - books in a rucksack isn't ideal. But it's got to be better than a thumping great holdall like I had either slung over one shoulder or held in one hand, tilting your spine and God knows what else.....

Only lazy people push their clubs around - fact! But if you're injured or too weak to carry them, then that's fair enough in my book.

And all of this talk about carrying your clubs is bad for your back....what a load of nonsense! Carrying your clubs will make your back much stronger and will help prevent future injuries. I've nothing against those that decide to pull/push their clubs around but surely they would be the first to admit they are lazy? (Unless injured etc...)
It amazes me how many people say that they can't carry because they have a bad back. They probably have a bad back because it's weak and exercising will actually HELP back pain.

And re people carrying their clubs over the green...what's the issue here? I weigh 12 and a half stone and my clubs add an extra 7kg, which keeps me well under 14 stone. So does this mean should this mean that anyone who weighs more than 14 stone should not be allowed on the greens? Stupid thinking!

Fantastic.................

The game is for enjoyment, and if you enjoy it more with a trolley fine by me. I just prefer to carry, but couldn't care less what others want to do.

Nice one Leaney, if only you could have thrown the grenade in a couple of pages earlier, this thread may just have exploded into life..

BTW, I have a pull trolley, and an electric trolley. I have just acquired a carry bag as I simply prefer to carry, and for some reason, I feel fresher after carrying than I do after pulling.... What you do is up to you. I don't really care as long as you don't try to push your views onto me....

I found that I lost more balls when I carried, dont quite have the same issue with the pull trolley I use.

Confused?

Kept leaving the pocket with my balls unzipped, then the heave up onto my shoulder would always pop one or two of the wee buggers out.

In truth, actually carrying the bag didn't cause me any problems. It was lifting it, setting it down where I would be in agony.

carrying a bag on your back will only work out certan muscles and neglect others. this cannot be good for it in the long run. a proper work out in the gym is the correct way to strengthen the back.

Fact?? Or just your opinion??

If fact, then citations please.

If opinion, then your are welcome to express it but please do not call it fact.
