Do you use a Tee on a short par 3 ?

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

And thats the kind of free thinking logic that cant be argued with. I will mend my ways henceforth and play a peg whenever I can. Because "Big Jack" told me to.
Now I can finally feel like a tour pro.

Greg I think you miss the point, Jack rarely grounded his club but it doesn't mean it's right but in the instance of having a chance to guarantee 18 perfect lies then surely that's sense regardless of who said it.

At the end of the day you do what's comfortable for you

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

What, you dont get the connection? Its fairly simple but let me break it down. Talking about doing something because the pros do it.
Tour pros do it, must be right... Then so must the gear, otherwise why use it?

Technique and equipment are two different things, but if you see it as a valid point then fine.

Technique snd equipment are often intrisincally linked. Its as valid a point as saying I do it because a tour pro does it.
No point in trying to purvey opinion on here nowadays. I merely asked why tee on a par 3 but not on most other iron shots... Cos the tour pros do it or big jack said so was, by and large, the resopnse.

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

Never hit my short irons from a tee peg. I find it just encourages me to hit them like a driver on the up and I just send them into outer space. I feel far more confident on distance control from the turf.

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

I tend to drop and play, although sometimes i use a broken tee head. I find I hit it worse of a tee with an iron.

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

5 and 6 iron I do, hybrid no and if I never need to take a 3 wood then yes.

I find it odd hitting of a tee with an iron. You don't use one off the fairway...

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

Always tee it up whenever legally possible. Whats the point having a decent lie when you can have a perfect one? :)

+1 to this. If you have the opportunity to have the perfect lie at least 18 times a round, why not take advantage of it.

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

Wow! 8 pages so far on whether to use a tee on a par 3. Maybe a poll? Or

I started using yellow castle tees for all tee shots - which may explain some of my swing characteristics!

Now use tee, pretty flush to the ground for everything except Driver, wherever allowed - I'd use one on the fairway if allowed - though there as a time where I'd simply smack an iron into the turf and play it from the raised slope - I saw Tony Jacklin do that and thought I'd try it. Saves rummaging around in the pocket if no broken bits in sight. I'm after as good a lie as possible, so if I'm allowed to manufacture one, all the better.

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

I use a driver off the tee for every hole, I have more control that way and sometimes manage to stay on the fairway, sometimes :)

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

As a lot have said...yes, I'll use a tee. If the rules state you can give yourself a perfect lie, why wouldn't you?!

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

All depends on the condition of the tee, type of tee I'm playing off, which club I'm using and what shot I want to try and play.
So in short yes and no.

Re: Do you use a Tee on a short part 3 ?

When winter rules are in force, if there is a nice fluffy bit of grass on the fairway within 6" of my ball I will place the ball there after cleaning it.

On a par 3 I'll use a tee most of the time, but pushed down far enough to recreate the 'nice fluffy lie' that I'd give myself on the fairway given the chance.

Sometimes I don't use a tee with a wedge, if I want to hit a knock down shot, or am peed off with myself for the last few holes.
