I recently injured myself at football, landing awkwardly and bashing my hip and shoulder on solid astroturf and after I was struggling to walk or do anything because of my hip. I managed to play a knockout match after a few pain killers no problem. My hip has now healed up but I'm still suffering with shoulder pains and have done now for a month or so. Luckily I've been busy this month so havent played much golf, but when i do swing it only hurts when i'm out of position..

Misses keeps telling me to go to the docs so i stop complaining when i wake up or try and lift something, but I recon first thing they will say is, you need to rest it.....

Do you normally let injuries get in the way or just play through the pain?

I normally play through, unless it's back related, when I can't.

I am a bit better today, so iam going to try playing, after a good warm up first. Its probably a bad idea, but I am bored of not playing, when everyone else is!

What can go wrong?

play through it but not the best idea, had a ribcage problem a few years ago and used to cry out in pain just after impact it was that bad- stupid I know but it was summer and had games to play.

Nowadays (and older) I might think twice.

Now go see the Doc and you can do what he says or not, he might actually fix it;)

Play through, I caught a shot fat just before christmas and i had regular pains from bending the wrist back right through to mid feb.

That would depend on how badly I was injured, and what I had coming up. Generally if I can play I will play but if playing meant risking not being fit for the club championship (for example) the following week I might not.

Depends on my mood and the weather on the day!

Have gone to both extremes - couldn't be bothered to climb out of my warm pit one sunny day due to lack of sleep and....... played 36 holes one day with a rib injury that the quack had said should be rested and GENTLY rotated for the next month or two. Knackered me for 5 months that did!

Diagnosed with tendonitis of the shoulder last week by the doc. She told me to rest....no golf......prescribed anti inflammatory pills and painkillers.....that was Friday morning.......so I rested Friday......but then played Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and yesterday.......:o the golf has been better with the bad shoulder!!!

Thinking about a few holes later and then playing tomorrow..........it doesn't hurt as much as it did, and if I think it's going to get worse then clearly I'd rest........I think.. :o

When I papped my wrist last year, I should have stopped, but didn't. That made things worse and put me out for around 3 months.

Last weekend after 18 holes I had a sore back. Taking past experience into account , decided to rest. Had a lesson booked for Wednesday, so hit no more balls from then til' Wednesday. My back felt worse every day :(

Hit 50 balls before my lesson, about 30 during, and about another 50 after. Back is now fine

Go figure :mmm:

if the doc say's it won't make things worse then I do them - if he says it will make them worse I don't

like many I'm permanently 'injured' as well as having recurring injuries and issues relating to the injuries - I had 1 week last year when I remember thinking to myself 'about as good as it's going to get :)', it was, and it didn't last....

You're such a trooper:thup:

I did think you may have had a sore neck also, that would explain the need to keep it warm :D

That's the inspiration I've been waiting to hear, now where's that 'The Weekend Thread' :whoo:

Depends how bad the injury is, 2 of the last 3 injuries have put me on crutches so not much of a decision lol. Tend to suffer with a lot of back ands shoulder muscular issues that I tend to play through whatever, ruptured calf, torn ligamentsa and bursitis stopped me completely each time though :(

I was headbanging to Bohemian Rhapsody, and my body reminded me im not 16 anymore. Had to chip and putt for a few days. Generally ill just get lots of time on massage chair, steam room etc at the gym.

Tend to always have some pain somewhere also - back shoulder and wrist being the usual culprits.

Osteopath sorted my back (for now) and the wrist tends to only hurt later in the year when I play too much.

My shoulder is more of an issue recently, have suffered a few shoulder injuries in Gaelic football so started the same rehab I used for those and it seems to be working.

You must have put something out yesterday when you muscled up (got a lucky bounce off a sprinkler head) and crept past me on the 17th!!:o

Or maybe writers cramp from defacing homers ball:o:o

Pure rhythm Nick, that's what creamed the ball 40 yards past yours!

I've already stated here that I don't have a green Sharpie Inspector Clouseau, the guilty party could be closer than you think!

Tennis elbow that wont go away. A couple of nerofen before the round seems to sort it!
