After playing the best round so far of my first years golf (well only played 13 holes before the light closed in, shot 6 over which i'm chuffed with as I'm a 28 hadicapper)I thought for the first time in a while that I don't need to buy any more clubs. However, stupid as it sounds, I had no idea how many clubs I was carrying. Turns out I was carrying 12 (including putter). Should I bother investing in more? Or are any of you the same?
I carry:
driver - Macgregor NVG2 draw 11.5
3 wood - Macgregor NVG2 draw
3 hybrid - Benross VELOCT
4-PW - Mizuno MX900 graphite
SW - MD Superstrong
Putter - Odyssey DFX2

Also, a couple of weeks ago I was thinking of packing this game in! I know, shame on me :o But I thought I'd give the course a rest for a few weeks. So I've been practicing loads or the last few weeks and its finally come round. Just my drives where flying a bit high... maybe a 9 degree would be better :D

Up until now I have only ever carried 12 clubs...4-SW and 1/3/5 woods and putter.

Having just purchased a decent cart bag and 'leccy trolly, a 7 wood and gap wedge will be joining the happy throng.
I don't know whether carrying the extra two clubs will improve my scores (I very much doubt it) but it's nice to have the choice.
My reasons for only carrying the 12 were simply to save weight. I have always carried my bag until now, but my knees are giving me a bit of stick so I have finally succumbed to the power of the battery.
It will be nice to carry all of my wet weather gear, a brolly, extra jumper etc. without having to worry about weight ever again.
I'm hoping that by feeling a little "fresher" towards the end of the round I will play the closing holes a little better rather than have the odd "blob" rear it's ugly head. My back 9 scores have always been slightly down on my front 9 efforts (if looked at as an average)...I never win on countback!!

;)

To answer the question, yes,
They are lisyed below. Have always carried or trolleyed 14 clubs since I got serious about golf, generally use them all on a round at my home course as the par 4 hole lengths are reasonably varied and my game is somewhat erratic.

I suggest a gap wedge and a 5wood or 2iron hybrid.

your pitching wedge is 46 degrees so anything from a 50-52 deg gap wedge shall feel the slot nicely

During the main season, in a competition, yes I'll have 14 clubs in the bag.

At this time of year, with wet gound etc, I'll probably pick and chose depending on conditions on the day. Dropped the 60° wedge in August as the ground was tto wet to use it effectively. It's not been in the bag since.

Went out yesterday to play a few holes and had 6 clubs in the bag, makes choices a lot easier!

I use a 5 wood and I absolutely love hitting it off of the fairways and ou of the rough on par 5's or silly long par 4's.

I am still carrying 4 wedges, PW, 51 (GW) 56 and 60 as these suit my game at present.

Maybe have a chat with a pro or decent shop and see what they recommend to you.

The game is hard enough, so in MY opinion it is sensible to use the maximum number of clubs. That said there is nothing better than a quick nine after dinner in the summer with a small bag and a 1/2 set.

If you are serious about playing regularly and in competitions and getting a handicap down then I do think you need a full set

I use them all or maybe rearrange them mow and again, drop a club and take two drivers out(one Im useful with off the lawn) but normally take 14.

I often find in a good round that I can be using Driver/3Wor recovery wood/8 iron/9 iron/PW/Putter.
5 or 6 clubs, but you can be sure that if I dumped a few out of my bag I would need them! It pays to have a reasonable arsenal in your bag.

Hate to disagree with most posters, but my scores have not been better since I cut to 10 clubs - 3i to sw & putter. (ok, I still carry the woods, but dont use them).

thats more likely to be the type of clubs you carry rather then how many!
