Do you add up the card you are marking?

There is no requirement to tot the scores up, juts to check that the entry for each hole is correct. I ask my marker to not do it.

Why ?

Does it matter if he has got it wrong - you just change it -do you count it up on your card and then confirm with him then you have ensured the score is correct.

I just presumed it was the done thing We always add up scores and check with each other before signing!

I presumed you were signing as marker to say the score is correct! Some people were saying the other day they signed before they played!

Again, I thought you signed to say you had checked the score and it was correct!!!!

You only need to mark the score for each hole. Totalling etc is not important. You are signing to say the individual gross scores are correct. You take the risk that by pre-signing you are going to be caught foul of signing for a wrong score and DQ. But as long as you check it you'll not then get DQ for forgetting to sign.

We usually add them up, medal and S/ford, it's a good initial check that the individual scores are right. If we disagree on the total we look for any discrepancy.

I always complete my pp's card, total each half, deduct their h/c, enter nett score, indicate tee played, sign it and then whistle Dixie.

Yup when checking with the player I run through their scores hole by hole and giving the total after 9 then back 9 then round total

I know its the hole score I'm signing for but I don't see why not do the totals too, it doesn't say 'for committee use only' in the boxes!

At the end of 9 holes I total up his score and tell him if he wants to know and he does the same for me. At the end of 18, we compare scores, confirm, sign and enter into BRS.

We always stand together, agree each score, total up, then sign. I don't understand why it would be a problem. Simple, makes sure the scores are correct and both sign at the same time

I've been playing golf for 55 years and have NEVER not had my card fully marked & added up nor not done it myself for my FC. Find it extremely strange the anyone would do otherwise.

I always add up score and points because that's what people expect. I never write my own s'ford points on my card though, just my gross score and I always check the individual hole scores before I put the card in.

I should probably clarify, I actually count how many over par the score is and then add that to par rather than add up th numbers. Same result but usually requires less adding up.

i do but just of late there has not been much adding up as the cards ive been marking have been level par, while mine has needed a the 6X table

Same here (though for considerably less years ). If anyone gave me back my card signed without adding/checking with me the totals (which we had already checked after 9 - earlier thread refers) I'd think they were very odd.

Jeepers ! i always add them up after 9 on the card im marking then the same with the back 9, be it strokes or stableford , i wont tell you your score unless you ask , or i know you well enough to know u want to know ..

As with Hawkeye I add up the over par scores, less likely to make any mistake. I also add them up after nine, but only mention the score if the player queries his own addition.

I amazed at this idea that a player doesn't know want to know their score in case it's good/bad and ruins their concentration. Really? Are we saying that a player isn't aware if they are playing well/poorly!?? Surely everyone is aware when they are having a good round, and everyone knows when they are slicing it OOB and writing triples on their card.
