I am currently in the process of getting a taxi drivers licence and was wondering about getting a dash cam for the cab,two even as im thinking one pointing inside the cab would be a good idea for my own safety.
now im not sure how they work ,do they just fun a loop that keeps recording every half hour or so ,or do they record everything whilst the car is switched on .
any help gratefully accepted .

There is a fella on Redtube that has one, might be worth asking via that site.

He's a very busy fella, only seems to pick up bored housewives though......so StuC told me.

I would say for recording of passengers, i would look for one that records much longer and would even consider keeping the footage you have for say 3 months. You never know when you may need it, or it could help the police for example.

I have the 0803
Heres a review of how it works

He talks about wear & tear, but surely you don't leave it in the car, unless you use a garage all the time!

thats half the point of them to leave them in, many will have a motion sensor that will trigger recording, thus recording the numpty thats just driven into your parked car and driven off.

I was thinking more about theft, smash & grab :(

I've got a Nextbase dash cam. Bought a 32G SD card for it that gives about 4 hours recording. It records continuously in 3min segments I believe and once the card is full it starts over writing the oldest file. You can of course download to a PC if you want to keep the recordings. With the built in GPS you can play back a map of the journey but be aware that with the GPS on, your speed is also recorded.

It has a G Sensor and in the event of an impact, it will automatically lock the recording so it can't be overwritten.

Decide what cam has the best features for what you want, go on-line and download the user manual and read through it before parting with your cash.
