Dash cams

There's a dash cam on Amazon for 30 quid which has really good reviews, thinking of getting it.

Do they need to be plugged into the 12v socket? Don't really fancy wires dangling all down my centre console.

You can wire them up to something that is only on when the ignition is on. That way, they start/stop recording as and when you turn your car off and on. Some of the cameras have the power cable connected to the bracket that sticks to the windscreen so if you take the camera out of the car, there's no wires dangling down.

Think it was this one

There's another by the same company which is £35 also

link not linking properly, however, the issue could be buy cheap buy twice. A few things I've gleaned from looking that are key imo are;

Proper HD at 720p min
Wide angle and min 30FPS
Looped recording.
turn on turn off with car start/stop
ideally starting with motion to car ie bump in car park
ability to cut off in car sound and GPS/car data on system (you dont want to show some idiot crossed into your lane which is clearly their fault but you were recorded breaking the speed limit, so no payout for you either)
