Medal yesterday, and played with 2 lads off 5 & Scratch
Damp but not raining, course nice and receptive, and played some inspired golf to be 2 over Gross after the front 9.

Kept it going well, and stood over my ball 40yds short of our 16th green, a Par4 479yd monster, I'm 5 over Gross, and well in control.

However, by this time, its been belting it down for the last 2 holes, and despite the wet weather gear and Brolly up with towel tucked up underneath it, its getting a bit difficult, and everything is soaked and slippery.

Chipped short, chipped on, and 2 putted for a Double, and then proceeded to double the 17th & 18th too   :D

Gross 79, nett 69 (CSS69) but what could have been

Im taking to take many positives from the 15 holes I played really well on, including single putting each green from the 6th to the 10th, but that damned rain absolutely wrecked my card !!

Even when your head's in gear to cope with the weather, its just so tricky to do, or is it just me ??

Difficult keeping gear dry I agree but if you put in the preparation before your round you can help yourself -

This is a real faff but you need 2 spare towels (in plastic bags), rain gloves (at least 3) again in plastic bags, electric trolley with brolley holder is good so you dont have to handle the umbrella at all and can keep the top of the bag out of the wet.

As you say good scoring 1-15 but you will feel like it's an opportunity wasted.

For those folk who say electric trolleys are bad I would say they are invaluable in this type of scenario when loads of spare gear is needed.

Couldn't help but notice the number of brolly holders on trolleys yesterday. It appears that they are becoming more acceptable.

I gave up with the umbrella yesterday as is was more hassle than it's worth. Time to modify my old brolly holder to fit the GoKart.

PS. Sorry. I should have said. Great scoring though on the first 15. Gotta be chuffed with that.

Definately take the positives.

Rain makes the game harder. The best in the world play over par rounds in tough conditions. You played it to par.

If it had rained early doors and you had the doubles, but then the conditions had improved slightly, and you finished with the same score, you'd be happy. I know there's this thing we all feel about how we end a round. But it's the total score that's important, not the individual holes.

And your total was damn fine.

I am with birdieman on this and another reason I've stopped carrying. Put a couple of drinks, food, spare towels and spare gloves into a carry bag and it becomes a lot to lug around. If the rain stops and you put the waterproofs in too that makes it even harder. To be prepared to play well in the wet you need the extra towels/gloves to keep everything dry.

Now I've got my go-kart I can carry it all in my bag and not have to worry. I hope they have ordered a load of umbrella holders (due in soon) as I think they'll be a rush on.

funny, I've gone the other way having just bought a stand bag. my electric trolley will feature in all medals and matches though.

I got it for two reasons, but did find a third as a result of using it.
- the society plans a long weekend to Scotland next year, flying so no trolley (and I hate buggies with a passion).
- a bit of extra conditioning, I don't go to the gym (and have no plans to),
- it has proven to be quicker to get going, useful for those evening rounds.

fortunately my track is flat so it's not impacting on energy levels, I'd think twice about a long or hilly one though.
