Quite like what the European Tour have done this week with a chance of format - top 32 go through after two rounds
and then top 16 start again on Sunday for a one-round shoot-out. Is a bit like deja vu watching the same faces on the
same course at Aphrodite Hills but at least we've got something a bit different to the usual 72-hole strokeplay..

Bit harsh on the guy that shoots 62,62,62,72....8 shot lead going into the final round. Or not.
A bit of a gimmick really, just like the night golf in Dubai...

Is a bit gimmicky but might add a bit of sparkle on Saturday and Sunday

Bit weird that some players are only playing this shootout week rather than last

Maybe a better way would be to have 2 rounds of matchplay followed by 2 rounds of strokeplay..
Start with 156, 78 play the 2nd day and 39 go out the last 2 days in 3 balls...
As its in the same place as last week it wouldn't be too much of a drag if you got knocked out in the first round...and if they'd started it Tuesday - even better

Not sure abut this format but one of the things I have advocated for years is bring back the third round cut. Keep the pressure going.

Last round with with just 40-50 players would mean the round not being started too early and leave enough light for a play off if needed.

They're trying something different like the sixes and shot clock - good on them. The bigger events should always remain as 4 round stroke play, and they always will. The smaller events like this benefit from something a bit gimmicky, I think.

Its still just strokpley golf, so if you watch you dont know any different. The only change is how they come to the winner. Its not like there are windmills on the greens or anything.

Someone on Twitter has suggested this which might be interesting...

'Added dimension in Cyprus this week, give players the option to declare each day... get to -3 through 4, declare and take the gamble it’s enough to progress..'

it's golf Jim, but not as we know it! Actually, might be a hoot. Can do it with no galleries, otherwise you could get an empty course! Sponsors/Sky might not be too chuffed though! But what a great (if nutty) idea.

Think it would be hilarious - players just walking off and calling it quits after a belting front nine

Watching the final round with only 16 (plus ties) playing will be painful. What will the commentators come up with when they are waiting for someone to take a shot? Will be really slow

Does Federer get a head start in the next round of a tennis tournament if he beats his opponent in straight sets vs someone who comes through on a tie break in a tight match? No of course not.

If you want to win you need to play well in all of the rounds not just relax on a good first couple of rounds and then cruise home.
