Yes - there is the 'final value' aspect of the purchase. Though my company doesn't seem interested in getting anything from me for it and I've had it for nearly three years.
That's the good thing about working for a decent outfit, my old boss would have take everything he could off.

get on the scheme! specialized concept stores are in it, i used the scheme to buy a hardrock sport disc 29'r MTB. cost me about £24 a month in real terms! then i actually left the company 6 months after, they just deducted the balance from my last payslip.

I've just used the R2W scheme to buy my bike and it's a great scheme. The deductions from the cost of the bike depends on your current tax bracket, so if you are in a higher tax bracket, then you get a bigger deduction. i.e if you are paying 40% tax, then the total deduction will be in the region of 42%.

Also, if i've understood it correctly, once the 12 months is up, you have the option to either buy the bike from your employer or you can keep it for another 5 years rent free (I know this sounds like a no brainer, but thats the way around paying tax).

Have a look at it. The top value voucher you can request is £1000.

I've just taken up cycling about 3 weeks ago. I was sick of getting strains when running so decided to migrate to the bike. I found myself a decent 2nd hand bike ( Cannondale Synapse 105 Flatbar) off ebay, got a bit of kit and have put in over 200 miles so far, slowly building it up, varying intensity sessions. Loving it so far, my golf time has taken a hit though

I used to do a bit of racing when I was younger and thinner, pretty much stick to watching it on tv though these days. Still have my bike and all my gear but I tend to stick to less frequent pleasure rides these days. I still follow the European racing scene though, absolutely love the Tour and the northern Classics, proper hardman races!

I was big into cycling, still have 4 bikes cluttering up the house. But cycling and golf are both very time consuming hobbies and golf is my one true love, so cycling has taken a back seat.
Hanging on to my cervelo because it is a thing of beauty and I will want to get out on it again I'm sure, that and I couldn't stomach the loss I'd make selling it on.
I've got a Genesis Aether road bike that I am moving on to free up space, if my brother in law doesn't take it then I'll be selling it for a reasonable price.

If you like, I'd be more than happy to take one of your bikes out of the way for a few months in exchange for beer tokens :D

1st dibs on the Cervelo please!!

Any cycle enthusiasts about (except Steve, who's all but given up golf for lycra)?

To be honest, apart from combatting middle age spread and keeping my heart beating, I can go for a long ride on Sat and Sun AMs and be back with the family by 11am latest. Alternatively go and play golf and it is more like 4pm.

Love being out In the countryside, which is similar to golf and skiing.
It's also very nice wearing all this clingy Lycra !!!

Trying to get a modicum of golf in at the same time however ;)

Precisely part of the reason I want to start doing it. Furiously saving the pennies to afford a bike before we run out of summer!

EDIT: should clarify - for the timing thing and the getting out in the countryside...not the putting the lycra on :D

I love getting out on the bike. I have both a mountain bike and a road bike. A good 2-3 hour ride clears the mind and keeps you fit. Be careful though, as Sev has alluded to before, if you think that golf advertising is imaginative, then just wait till you see some of the cycling ads. A couple of guys I train with occasionally are Ironman competitors (sub 11 hour times). The money they spend is criminal. One of them has just dumped the best end of £8k on a Tri-Bike. He then sold the wheels after 2 months and spent another £2.5k on another set. All of this was because he wants to qualify for Kona AG racing.

Was in the Pinarello shop in !manchester a few weeks back
Cheapest bike - grand, most expensive 22k

Mind you, stay away from carbon and you can get some good deals

My bike was £300 from decathlon last summer, and has had rave reviews in industry, beating bikes worth 3 times as much.

Can't believe Aztecs hasn't been tempted by the Lycra - the serious boys ( and girls) go commando under their Lycra shorts ;)

Trying to get my mitts on the very same bike, but because of their awesomeness, they are rarer than rocking horse do-do, and selling for near RRP second hand on ebay! :( The Reading store have a handful in at the mo, but I can neither a.) Get to reading for a few weeks and b.) have £300 for a few weeks, by which time, they will have long gone, being left with the inferior "white" version. :(

Anyone near Reading that fancies lending me £300? :( :(
