Got some foot warmers to try in my MTB shoes, felt ok for the first 20 mins but them just as bad as nothing. packaging said they lasted 8 hours, both stone cold after an hour, feet like blocks of ice by the time i got back

That's interesting it didn't work, was chatting yesterday with the owner of my local bike shop who are MTB specialists and he said he does exactly this. I ride on the road rather than MTB but have had some limited improvement with Sealskinz that I bought last month

i think it might be down to the pedals, i use SPD in the MTB bike and being metal transmit the cold through the pedal and the cleats. what pedals are you using?

its was abit warmer here yesterday maybe 3deg, but still had to head back after an hour bec of how cold my feet were

Ask me again tomorrow. Just have a hybrid right now with flats but tomorrow I am picking up a shiny new Scultura which will have SPD SL :)

I want to get a bmx cruiser and go to a pump track. I used to race and do freestyle back in the 80's/90's.

Quick head up, Etnies has 20% off your next order if you subscribe to the newsletter.
Just ordered some more Marana Mid Crank but the winterized version for £52 delivered which is a total bargain for a top quality shoe, hopefully it will help with my cold feet woes.

I was going to post a photo of it here but damned if I can shrink the file enough. Anyway, you all know what a road bike looks like :). This Scultura 6000 is lovely, shiny, and mine!

Feet felt fine on 1hr rides as well with the cleats, everything is like blocks of ice for the first couple of miles this week but fine once I got the blood flowing. Good idea to stay on busier roads though where it has been gritted, made that mistake yesterday and had to gently gently coast for a while.

funny enough yesterday i gave the foot warmer pads another go. stuck one on the top one on the bottom of my toes. seemed ok for about half an hour, but them just started to get cold.... mind you it was -6 yesterday morning. when i got home i took them off and they were all stone cold. left them in a pile on the Breakfast Bar and went fora shower. came back some 20 mins later and they were all hot again, really hot and stayed that way till about 5pm (supposed to last 8 hours)!!! ready some of the revies and most of the people using SPD said they didn't work due to the metal on metal, bur ione guy put them in his pocket and stuck them on once his feet got cold on a ride... i don't think i would bother with that in a foot of snow and -6:ROFLMAO:

They are doing catch ups for all of the stages if you want,

New bike is a North Road iO. They are hand built in Manchester, https://www.northroadcycles.com/io I am getting some extra bespoke stuff done so I can use it as a Tri bike too.

MacAskill’s Dubh Slabs video is a bit of an odd one, impressive but a lot less technical than his others. The weird thing for me was the sense of steepness didn’t come across too well. The “making of” video they’ve put out shows how steep it is in places much better, so that’s worth a watch too.
Thanks for this .
I think terrain is the hardest thing to capture in 2d. On a completely different scale, golf courses with slopes are incredibly difficult to convey (Augusta and TOC are different but alike in this).
Scotland is an amazing place, but for me the most extraordinary thing is the weather. Skye must look like that about twice a year...

I was on Skye a few years ago cycle touring. When I went back from the end point to get the car from the jump off point, I could see all the views we had missed.

I'm lucky, as I'm able to be quite picky when travelling up to the far North West. I was in in the outer Hebrides (Uist, Berneray and Harris) a couple of years ago on a bike and had an extraordinary time. I have Bute and the Argyll coast up to Oban in the pipeline once the jail sentences are commuted and the weather warms up this year.
If there was no traffic, I'd be keen to go North Coast 500, but I get the feeling it will be wall-to-wall camper vans this year, so will give it a miss for a bit.

They filmed that in April and missed all the traffic, I have watched a couple of YouTube films with people cycling in the summer and the traffic at some points looks brutal.

The Bealach na Ba & the NC500 is in my bucket list for cycling, along with Mount Ventoux.

I am trying to get @Jimaroid and @Captainron to join me on the NC500 but they keep making excuses :ROFLMAO:

You did well in the Outer Hebrides, I did the full route a few years ago and the weather was hard work and the midges

I did the Ventoux a few years ago, think it was around 60miles to reach it so it was a decent days ride by the time we got back to our digs. I remember flying up the climb and thinking what all the fuss is about, passed loads and loads of riders, it was mainly tree lined at this stage so you are in the shade and it almost felt like I was getting a little tail wind up it as well but as soon as you come out of the tree lined section, it was like riding on the moon, the sun was glaring down, the heat was bouncing off the road and off the side of the hill and you felt like you were riding in an oven, it was torture, think that last section is approx 5 miles but it was the longest 5 mile ride of my life, I stopped at the Tom Simpson memorial for a couple of minutes (it was busy) it also gave me a chance to recover a bit but it was a mistake as I really struggled to get going again.

There is a photography setup near the top of the Ventoux and you can go to their website, search the date and approx time that you were there and there will be half a dozen decent quality photos that you can buy, I wasn’t interested at the time but a few years later I decided to see if the pictures would still be available, which they were so I decided to buy them.

It really is an amazing ride and you more or less start from a beautiful little town were you can fuel up for the climb, highly recommended.

Cheers, John

spring is the time to go, less traffic as well, thats the main downside up here now, i won't ride on the road any longer, its too dangerous
