Me and kellfired off here are off to Wentworth for the Sunday and going to the open for the Wednesday practice day and are wanting to play some courses while we are at both events.

We are stopping at the premier inn next to Heathrow for Wentworth so are wanting a course quite close by to play on the way down on the Saturday.

For the open we are staying in Blackpool for a couple of nights so hopefully getting at least 2 rounds in and would prefer to play links style courses while we are their.

Don't mind paying a bit extra for a top course as a treat but also don't mind playing some lesser known course.

So any advice would be appreciated.

If you get no other offers then you're more than welcome to knock it round Royal Ascot when you come to Wentworth. Hopefully though some kind soul will get you on the better courses (Camberley, Bearwood, etc) but the offer is there

Thanks for the offer, defiantly will keep it in mind.

While at the Open you are spoilt for choice. I would check out the following:

St Annes Old Links
Fairhaven
Blackpool North Shore
West Lancs
Lancaster

Depends how far you want to travel from Blackpool really

Blackpool...

Try de vere herons reach or blackpool north shore.

If you are on a tight budget, Stanley park gc is a laugh for £12 a round. You could venture to fleetwood if you fancy a links course as well. Only 7/8 miles from blackpool, straight down the prom. (my daily commute)

At the Blackpool end. My Choice would St Anns old course but its not cheap. Not checked but think its about £80 weekends, but then they do use it for qualifiers for the open. Next would be fairhaven, then fleetwood, followed by North shore (not keen on north shore). Don't like Herons reach, only played it once, But the greens were crap.

Been looking at all them courses, also looked at Hesketh GC.

If you're heading towards southport then you could try southport old links that's very nice at a sensible price.

Did take a look at Hillside but £100 a round may be a little too much if we have to play a couple of other courses as well.

Yes it is pricey I know. A word of warning though that the prices you see on any of the websites on the courses nearby to the Open are not forced to be accurate as I know for a fact that some are putting their prices up nearer to the Open you play. This is to basically fleece all the tourists that are over here to watch the tournament. This place is good as well at only £85 a round:smirk:

Yeah I was worried about that, I'll phone a few of the courses we are intrested in to confirm the prices.

Fleetwood is the best value for money links in the area,It's not quite in the same league as St Anne's and the Southport courses but it's true links and I'm sure you would enjoy it, I'm not sure on the price but I think it's no more than £40 in summer.
Your more than welcome at my place but it's about 50 mins from Blackpool.

Stockley Park is pretty near to that (Hayes) Premier Inn by Heathrow. Pretty good layout but unpredictable condition (stay out of the gravel pit bunkers!) and a couple of long walks between holes (over bridges over major roads).

Mill Ride probably a tad better than Royal Ascot and only a little further on towards Bracknell. Camberley Heath probably 'nicer' still.

Might get a deal for both courses and food at Foxhills too - it may have dried out by end of May, specially with no rain! If so and you want a day, then that'd be my recommendation (dependent on price).
