Some pals and I are looking to play at Hollinwell and a couple of other nice courses in Notts in early March.
It's £600 for a midweek fourball.
Obviously I'll be phoning up to find out whether we get County Card discount, but can anyone advise me whether there are any routes to getting slightly more affordable prices for premier clubs?
Thank you.

Opens

Or Twilight rounds

They are your normal routes to get cheaper rounds at a top course

The 4 Man team Open in May is £500 which includes caffe and bap plus chips and a sandwich afterwards.

It is supply and demand for The Premier Clubs. Opens are the best option and they may be a little more receptive to a del earlier in the year.

For comparison Hillside @Southport is £180 per person no including some food and just like Hollinwell is not full.

Greed by some Clubs

Just had a look at Hollinwell green fees, if you book a second round within a week it drops quite a bit. Might well be worth booking Hollinwell twice to save a few quid.

To be honest, that makes me less inclined to play there; it shows they don't really need to be charging £160 per round. I'd rather pay 40 odd quid to Oakmere and Norwood Park and feel like I'm not being robbed.
One of our group is a low SF and likes to accumulate rounds at prestige courses. Myself and another are happy with an away day anywhere and have slightly more restricted cash flow. Hollinwell might have to wait.

I run a pit golf day every year at Norwood, this years cost is £38, to break that down. It £18 golf ( members don’t pay), £7 bacon butty and a cuppa. £13 BBQ meal. We pay £12 prize money. Yet some folk moan the meals not worth it but £38 is very good 😖
Had a Quick Look at some of the other “ premier “ courses in Notts and prices 😳

I've visited Woodhorn Colliery with my kids a good few times, does that count? So that's me, @RichA , we'll have a 3/4 ball in no time and we won't moan

One of the lads who I went for a beer with on Thursday night, in fact he is the guy that mentioned about the grumblings at Sherwood Forest. Is a member at well Sherwood Forest. 😖 Anyway a couple of years ago a. Ouple of lads asked about moving the comp to another course. I shopped around and he said “ I will ask at Sherwood”. He came back with a price £90 plus food. That went down like a fart in a spacesuit.
The strange thing is some of the lads in our fuddle drop in last minute to play and love it. One said “ I walked round one New Year’s Eve with a lump of coal in my pocket, does that count”. 😂
The beauty of having it at ours is that they don’t want anything up front and everyone brings cash on the day.
The comp itself has morphed from Thoresby pit colliers to any pit colliers and it works for me and the rest of the lads. 👍

They have a number of opens through the year

Three 4Bbb and one team open

All at £125 per person and includes food

Great value

After a couple of Mizuno Pairs and similar events I'm not that bothered about opens and comps like these anymore. Much prefer self-contained, self-(dis)organised trips.
Looks like Hollinwell prices drop by 30% if you don't book until the day before. I'm more inclined to wing it and do that. Plenty of nice courses around the area that will have midweek tee times without booking in advance.
