BLETCHINGLEY GOLF COURSE
Church Lane, Bletchingley, Surrey RH1 4LP
6, 600 yards, Par 72

INTRODUCTION
Parkland course two miles from junction 6 of the M25. Played 36 holes there in their Open competition, part of the Surrey Order of Merit. A little up and down in terms of walking but outside of a couple of semi-blind tee shots, the course itself plays very well.

FRONT NINE
The par-four 4th is an excellent mid-length hole with a narrow fairway and water hazard making strategy important. The following par-4 is a little silly with a narrow entrance on a right-to-left dog-leg with a ditch across the corner. You can hit a good shot and get screwed for it.

BACK NINE
The 10th is a great hole with a magificent backdrop and a strange step down from the fairway to the green. 16 and 18 are tough par fours with the former often being totally out of range to mere mortals from the back tee at 480 yards into the wind.

HIDDEN ATTRIBUTE
The par threes are magnificent. The 2nd is 185 yards downhill but not as steep a drop as the 230-yard 7th or the 190-yard 14th. And the other two, whilst shorter, have water hazards that run right up to the edge of the putting surfaces. Five of the best short holes you will find on any course in the area.

OVERALL
Definitely worth a visit. There were not many occasions when I got a driver out in the Open event due to the tight nature of many of the driving holes although you could get rewarded for really bombing one out there. The clubhouse is spacious and the staff were all extremely friendly so I would have to recommend it based on this initial foray.
