Why on earth is the water hazard that shape? ??
Was gonna be a B for Ballesteros, but they ran out of money and couldn’t afford to keep the digger in order to finish it off

Someone mentioned it earlier, but I hate holes that slope too far to one side or the other. The ones where you can land it right in the middle of the fairway and it just rolls off into the rough every time. Feels so pointless.

Also hate long par 3s. As in 200 yards plus. There's a couple I've played where in winter with a bit of wind I'm having to hit driver. Having to hit driver on a par 3 is just silly imo. No need for it.

Definitely agree about fairways with huge slopes especially in the current dry conditions down here. Impossible to hold and the balls all collect in the same spot so chances are you've got a bad lie or divot as a double whammy

Strawberry Hill Golf club has 3 par 3 holes in a row going 220, 230 & 240 yard. I played it once back in the days when my driver went 160 to 170 yards. On the 4th I had to lay up because I couldn’t carry a little stream in the middle of the fairway.

I played in an Open at Bellingham, Northumberland today. The 18th there is a hateful hole and ticks a few boxes for this thread.

Blind tee shot - tick
Steep right to left slope on the fairway - tick
2nd shot, ball above feet - tick
Blind shot to the highly elevated green - tick
Significant ditch / gorge at base of raised green - tick
No lay up area before ditch / gorge - tick

It's a horrible hole

Ditches(or other hazards like a strip of heather or bunkers) right the way across the fairway at anywhere near driving distances.

Shouldn't be allowed and forces you to be one dimensional in how you play the hole.

Or it really separates the big hitters from the rest. Normally a mate of mine out drives me by say 40 yards, but on the 18th at our place there's a ditch at around 200, so he drives it, I have to lay up and now he's out driven me by 80 yards! :cautious:

Indeed...'S' for Seve - the designer!

I love the place, but can understand why others might hate it! 18 is definitely a challenge for we short-hitters. Off White tees I play it as a Par 5 and no longer play Driver off tee. That gives me 2 Rescues (either 27 or 23 depending on pin position).

And, after all, you have to have a certain amount of masochism to play Golf!
