After all of my whinging on here, looks like it may be time to change clubs again. Most of my playing partners are also fed up with the atmosphere and attitude at the club and 2 have quit their membership this week.

What did surprise me is that the club let them go immediately and furthermore they were released from their Fairway Credit agreements. I really thought that they would be paying for the year.

With others leaving before the season started, there are only 3 of us left now. One will stay as he is vice captain next year and fits in with the cliques that run the place but the other 2 of us look like we will be off soon.

Though I swore that it was not for me, Belton Woods has made a real effort to up its game apparently. Course in far better nick, roll ups every Saturday and comps on Sunday with full memberships available instead of the points system. 2 of our group have signed up and have got free rounds for the rest of us to give it a go so will see what happens.

All of those leaving are in the 35-45 year age group.

Played at your club in August with a works competition and thought it was a really good course, pity about what is going on behind the scenes

I really like playing at Belton Park and find the course really attractive. By contrast, some of the greens at Belton Woods are covered in goose droppings whenever I play there. I would suggest Rutland County, but we don't have the weekend roll ups that you want. Nonetheless, I will happily arrange a game if you are interested.

Thanks, surprisingly never played county despite living in Greetham for much of my life. Have a couple of free rounds at Belton Woods so will see what I think otherwise will look a bit further afield. Thing is I really like the course where i am but these days I am more concerned about the fun and the company.

I've played Belton Park a few times in the last couple of years as the guest of a member and in Opens. It is a good course, not dissimilar to my own in Nottingham, and has the benefit of having 27 holes so even if there are societies present you can always get a game.

Having said that (and accepting that it might not be fair to judge as an outsider), it does appear incredibly stuffy and outdated. I am a competent player, and love competitive golf, but the most important thing for me is the comradeship and friendly banter that takes place both during and after games. If I couldn't play a Saturday roll up, my enjoyment would be vastly diminished to the point of finding somewhere else to play.

Good luck on finding a club that meets your needs.

Pretty good summary to be honest. Surprisingly Belton Woods is the first in the area to offer weekend roll ups so definitely interesting

I always had an image of a club in my mind before I joined my club in Feb and wondered how I'd get on. A couple of mates joined at the same time but work shifts so I've only played with them a couple of times. I'm unable really to hang around the club after a round for half a coke/pint but the social side of the club is very welcoming and looks like it's part and parcel of being a member.

I thought a club (not necessary mine) would have clique's but I haven't found any so far in my first year, obviously member's have there groups/partners that they with week in week out but any time I've wanted to join a 3ball on a Sat morning I've been welcomed in everytime. If I hadn't have had this I wouldn't be renewing.

I always find the same with Belton woods whenever i play there i always manage to find loads of goose droppings. I thought about joining there last year and had a few rounds there but never really warmed to the place, so ended up joining Rutland County

They offered roll ups to you when you enquired about membership or they are the 1st that you know that have roll ups?

Most clubs I know off have roll ups.

You would be surprised to hear that it is the only club around here that I know of that have a weekend roll up (OK ignore the Sunday one at my place that it arranged by the great and the good of the club and you have to be invited to attend).
Having checked, there are no weekend roll ups at Belton Park, Stoke Rochford, Greetham Valley, Sudbrooke and comments on here suggest none at Rutland County. I do not think that there is one at Burley Park either nor at Rutland Water.
For something that is so integral in getting people to know each other at clubs and also so helpful in assisting new members in integrating, I find this pretty surprising.

I am quite surprised at that, one thing we do is get people involved in the roll ups asap.

There is about 5 or 6 per weekend day at Sleaford, all but two have a healthy diversity of age and handicap, all are very welcoming until you start winning the monies.

(just kidding, friendly bunches and good craic)

Sadly I am at work.

This weekend we have two qualifiers but next Saturday (Oct 1st) is a traffic light charity stableford. I texted the Captain just now and he said visitors would be more than welcome. If you fancy a game let me know what time suits and I'll meet you and your buddies there, it's only a bit of craic as comps go (non qualifier) and you'd play a third of the course off the reds but you'd get a sense of the place socially anyway. If you're not free no worries, you should defo drop down at some point and have a look around, you're bound to find someone in the pub to chat to!

Is the offer still on for next Saturday. If I could get a game next Saturday morning it would be superb. Would just be me.
