Due to the success of their centenary open week last summer, Cooden Beach GC have decided to hold this again this year (obviously the "centenary" part doesn't come into it!).
I have arranged to take the whole week of work this year and play in as many events as I can. Only got to play in the betterball stableford last year, and went and won it with Richart!
A variety of different competitions are held on a daily basis, with texas scrambles, 4 ball stableford team events, foursomes competitions and a mixed competition. I don't know yet which competition will be held on which day, but just wondered if any other forum members fancied taking part with me.
The betterball has already been arranged, with Richart again planning to partner me in the hope that we can successfully defend our title. But I will be aiming to enter a team in the texas scramble and stableford comps, and wondered if a lady might like to join me to play in the mixed comp. Not a great lover of greensomes or foursomes play, but the entry fees are so cheap that I will most probably have a bash at that one too.
Anybody interested???
I will obviously let you know as soon as I receive more details of which events are on which days, and it's going to have to be first come first choice as far as which team you get to pick to go in.

I can play in a team on the Monday or Tuesday (not both), preferably the Stableford if that happens on one of those days. Can't do later than Tuesday as off to Ballyliffin on the Friday.

Hi Fish
your interest is noted mate, and thanks for the prompt reply. I will let you know as soon as I get more information.
If I remember correctly they had a "Team 6's" comp on the Monday last year. Team of 4, Stableford. best 2 scores to count on first 6 holes, best 3 scores to count on next 6 and them all four scores to count on the final 6. Seemed quite interesting! They also had a Texas Scramble but I can't remember which day it was held on.
Will let you know mate. But Cooden is a long, long way away from Coventry. If the fixture list allowed it might be a good idea to come down for the two early days and stay overnight. As I say, a long way to come for one round.

Not that far and pretty straight forward, I've travelled further for a single days golf

Anyway, I like the hotel on the front, I might bring the wife. She can walk the dog on the beach as the hotel is dog friendly in the Tavern also :)

If I wanted a night out down this way Eastbourne would be the direction I headed in rather than Hastings. There are plenty of places in both towns, but Hastings is a bit chav central and tends to have more trouble than Eastbourne. Having said that, this would be a mid-week night so neither place would be banging.
No costings up on the website yet, but it was about £25.00 each for me and Rich to enter the betterball last year, and prices seemed to be pretty much the same for whatever comp you entered.
So reckon on that for your entry fee. Multiply by 2 if you want to play in two of the comps.

It's a great course. Not as good as RCP as that is an Open qualifier, and as such you expect it to be good. But I would class Cooden as a "hidden gem"....one of those courses that you could easily overlook if you were on a golfing holiday down here and weren't pointed in the right direction.
We came across plenty of those on our trips to Scotland years ago.
You've only got to see the uptake on this years planned forum visit on there in August to see how popular the venue is.
Most of the players attending came last year and the year before and loved it. Hence they want to come back!

I have travelled down from the Midlands for the last two years and have put my name down for this year, thats how much I enjoyed the course.

keep us updated aswel would yer rob on here as to when entry forms come out please

Official entry form is now up on the Cooden website.
http://www.coodenbeachgc.com/open_invitation_competitions/centenary_open_week/

I have arranged to take the whole week off so would be willing to play in most (if not all) of the competitions they have planned.
If you fancy playing in any of them and don't mind partnering a knob, get in touch with me via PM and we can sort something out.
I will, of course, be defending the betterball with my partner from last year Richart, unless he has other plans....
