Compulsory entry into competitions on Saturday morning

Not at mine. Apart from club qualifying, it’s pretty much one at month.
We have an awful lot in April & May Ken then it kind of dies a death as you know, is it due to visitors and the need to get their revenue you think, can't think of any other reason

Almost every comp at my place is stroke play. We have zero stableford comps at weekends. A couple across the summer on a Thursday. The senior medals that I generally don’t play in are all stroke play too.
A couple of the senior medals are Stableford and Bogey Ken but you're right, I don't think we in Scotland are overly keen on Stableford although clubs will have some I think most are Strokeplay thankfully

Stableford is stroke play!
It is but if I came into the club and KenL asked what I shot I would say 6 over or 77 if I said 37 points he would ask me what the hell I was on about, I quite often look at the 'I played today .......' thread and folk say they had 26 points or 38 points, great but what did you score 75, 85, 105, saying you had 38 points means nothing to me, I do appreciate there are other opinions available 😉

Any club that wishes to encourage its members to put in as many cards as possible will reserve blocks of tee times for those playing in the competition only - no casual play allowed.

At my place spots in the monthly Saturday and Sunday medals (held on different weekends) are in high demand. Allowing casual play alongside a medal could well significantly reduce slots for players wishing to play in the medal and put a card in…putting cards in by playing weekend medals and other weekend comps being the main or indeed only way of playing WHS accredited rounds for handicap that many have.

It means the player has played better than his handicap, which is what most people care about.

Am I tri-lingual because I can understand Gross score , nett score and Stableford points?

Mind you all are open to interpretation and further disclosure. My mother In Law was once impressed by someone who had fairly recently taken up golf again and announced she had 115 , then she discovered it was for nine holes.

They could also say they shot nett 73 and you still wouldn't have a clue what they shot 🤣

It's really interesting to see posts like @RichA #51. I just assumed that all clubs ran weekend comps every weekend during the season, April to Sept in the NE of England. That is all I have known at various different clubs. I'm not saying this is right, it is just the default setting. I think if I had suggested changing it at past clubs I would have got both a look of disdain and a verbal volley 🫣.
We are the same on the coast NW Cumbria. Generally a comp both days at weekend from April to September, usually one drawn and one Enter on Arrival. If there's ever a day at the weekend that there isn't one on there are questions why and the handicap committee will put a bar comp on. Majority are stableford as the medals aren't that well supported however we don't get massive numbers in comps (40 - 50 max) so there is always times available for social golf if needed

Join a club which suits you.

Mine has a comp every Saturday and as a weekend golfer, I enter it. Other days available to play. In fact 6.5.

Not really . We only have one or occasionally 2 Saturday comps a month.
Particularly when the days get shorter every slot is booked by comp players. Imagine not being able to play in the comp because a lot of slots are taken by players not playing in it.

During the longer days non comp slots can be booked in the afternoon but a player can only play in the comp in a comp slot

We do have a 9 hole course as well so non comp players can always get a game on a Saturday.

Not as horrendous as your comment, whatever the intention.
There was no intention. I'm just saying that if I'm playing In a board comp the last thing I want is to be held up by 3 women.
At my club they have competitions on a different day. You should see the first group of them almost running around to tell men that they are in a comp and to let them through 🤣

The women golfers at my club hold nobody up.

That's good then, my course is very difficult and the average age of a female must be 65. They do indeed hold people up. (Apart from the ones who rush round to complain about being held up)
