I have a 25hcp and was going well in last week's comp being 5 under my hcp through hole 13 after that I collapsed by hitting 4 over, 4 over, 3 over the 2 ob off the tee over the next 4 holes.

This is quite a regular occurrence and it's partly because holes 14 and 15 are SI 1 and 3 respectively but I was wondering if any of you could give me some tips on getting over this.

Whether it tips on pre comp preparation or course management etc. any advice will be appreciated.

Neil, if you are off 25 and these holes are par 4s, with your handicap, you get 2 shots on both of them.
If you play them both as par 5's and you make two 5s, you'll then be 2 more under your handicap
I know its easy to say, but play them as 3 or 4 shots to the green and then 1 or 2 putts :D

might be a silly question but how fit are you? I'm not asking if you are fat or thin just how fit, if you are new to golf it takes time before you are fit enough to play the full 18 holes with the same commitment as you had on the front 9.Swinging and walking takes it out on you over 15 or so holes.Timing and concentration both suffer as a result.

No. Valid point which is why I've been going to the gym the last few week as 3 games a week over the summer made me feel it a bit.

As Bob says you get two shots on these holes so play them as a par 6 (presuming they are par 4's) and so the sensible play would be a 3 wood or even a hybrid into play, nurdle one down, on for three and two putt for five nett 3. I'm guessing at the moment you are probably thinking about these holes as you are playing the preceeding ones and putting pressure on yourself. You stand there and are focussing on the negative shots you've had. Pick a target, a club to keep it in play and swing smoothly

A good shout by drawboy too re fitness. Do you eat or drink anything on the way round. Try something like a banana and plenty of water.

At the end of the day try and keep positive and look on the fact that you have played well to that point. If you can just focus on playing it as a par 6 (nett 4) and leave your card intact you'll be getting chopped in no time

Try not to be so aware of your score and to play shot by shot rather than trying to par in for a 70 etc.

100% agree with both.

Wherever you are on the course, and regardless of whether you're doing well or badly, the object of the game is still to put the ball in the hole in the fewest number of strokes, so don't feel like you're obliged to try and make a 4 on a par 4 if the risks are too great.

hi neil, this is my first post, but i really feel i can help here as i have just come down from 24 to 19 hcap. pretty rapid.
the secret is to know when to chance the hollywood ball and when not too. knowing that three onto the green will more often than not give you your hcap or better you only need to be targetting bogey golf for an excellent score.
I recently won a comp with only two pars on my card and shot a net 65.
dont force your shots, play well within yourself and only go for the green in reg if you are feeling really confident.
it may be old mans golf but its the best way to reduce your hcap and more often than not be in contention to win the comps.

Welcome to the forum two-over, great opening post by the way.
A little more about yourself would be good, ie. where do you play, handicap etc.

Enjoy the forum,

Golfmmad.

Get an electric trolley if you do not already have one. That should give you some spare energy when you hit the back nine.
PS. Don't ask which make unless you wan't to start a forum war though! :D

LMAO! I take it there's a big argument over Electric Trolly vs carrying your bats then?!?!?!?

Funnily enough someone said the same to me over the weekend. I've had my eye on stewart golf trolly for years. I'm almost at a point where I can get one.

You know they cost around £2500?
I know a lady who has one and has had nothing but trouble with it.

Not the X3R. I know a few people who have them and they've ran great. Wouldn't have a F1 as don't like the fact that the bag is part of the trolly.
