Depends what's happening.
During the footie season I play in the morning to give myself enough time to shoot off and get ready for the football.
Closed season (summer) generally call into the clubhouse for a soft drink afterwards and a chinwag.
HID is pretty good, never complains, but think she would if I carried on like some of the blokes at ours who generally spend the full day at the club.

Got a print out 1 year at the end of the season, I spent just under £1200 in the bar 😜 I don't look or ask anymore but I go in it more than I used to then 😳🍺🍺

 That's some serious coin mate.

There was a NE meet earlier this year organised by Hobbit at Cleveland GC, his old club. It is in Redcar with a grand view of the closed down steel works. Joking apart is very fine club and the course is a cracking links course, immaculate. A few of us were talking to some committee members afterwards and they were reeling off some figures about how much they took over the bar. It was staggering, particularly as the prices were very cheap. They also ran a card system and they highlighted a bloke who had just passed £60k spent on his bar card. Not sure how he was still alive as I seem to remember a pint was about £2.80 or so. I forgot to ask when the bar cards were first introduced but thinking about it I don't remember them being around 15 yrs ago, and that may be optimistic.

Back in the mid 90's playing 5 days a week I was spending £200 a month in the clubhouse on food & drink, you would be suprised how it can easily add up....

Personally, l wouldn't dream of not going to the 19th. Meeting & chatting with other members - even those who you've not just played with - is part & parcel of being in a members club.

As to the morning swindle, then going to the 19th afterwards is "compulsory". We only have two rules: you turn up on time, and you go to the bar afterwards. Doesn't have to be for long, and you don't have to drink, but you are expected to socialise - a bit. Yes, people have to get off quickly sometimes, and yes people have busy lives, but as someone once commented ... "what I love about the swindle, is that we're more than just an easy way to get a game of golf".

Sometimes the 3.5-4.5 hours of people's company during the round is enough (depends on the company!) and the thought of 'having' to socialise after doesn't always appeal

You pays your money and makes your choice

😲😲😲😲 That's some serious coin mate.

I'm not on the front page of spenders, I was about 24th out of 700 members, so not that shabby.

I think this year I'll spend a lot more, especially when playing for 2 club teams in the week and buying their drinks. I also play both weekend days, with Saturday being the main one.

I treat my club like my local 🍺

I know what you are saying and had "one of those" that simply gets on your wick in the medal today. Can't blame him for my dismal showing but didn't want to spend too much time socialising but I do still offer to buy a drink and go into the bar. It's only another twenty minutes and I have to be honest, I've found sometimes people off the course are different off the course and better company

At my old club I hardly ever went in to the clubhouse. Stuffy atmosphere and clientele etc. All stuff I have mentioned before. Different kettle of fish at the nee place. Very relaxed and lively atmosphere, Sky Sports on, no dress code, perfect. Very warm today was in the clubhouse in shorts, t shirt and trainers. Very comfortable and relaxed so called myvwife and she joined me for lunch.

I always pop in because we have a Starbucks. So coffee before the round and ale afterwards.
Most of the members are fairly well off and tend to get a free pint! 😂

Talk in the clubhouse that there is a plan afoot to reintroduce a £100 bar levy to the subs next year. Not sure it'll work and there were plenty of members that had credits left last time we ran it. The club make it very clear the levy had to be spent in the year (was only £50) and any unspent was reclaimed.

Personally I don't think it encourages any more people into the bar than not having it (the current rationale behind reintroducing it) and last time, members were simply buying bottles of wine from the bar near deadline time to spend the money. The club has done well in recent years to get members in and I think this will put a lot off.

Do forum members still have a levy at their club and does it make a difference to bar traffic?
