Club refurb - Wedges

My wedges are all a bit old, though haven’t had much use due to lack of playing time over the last few years. I have a 52 and 58 from Icy golf and a 56 Vokey SM5, the 52 and 58 are all rusted up and don’t seem to be giving me much spin so I am looking at getting them refurbed, has any body had much success with this, either sharpening the grooves DIY or sending the clubs off to be sorted? I am based in Southampton, so experience of local companies would be preferred.

Failing on the above, I am not against buying a new set of wedges, so any suggestions on the latest wedges would be well received.

I'd get fitted for a new set of wedges. Either Vokey or Callaway would be good choices.

Think you need to be very careful with sharpening grooves to ensure they don't become non-compliant (although I accept who the heck would check or know). Personally I prefer slightly worn grooves as the spin and the roll out from chip and run and pitch shots is a lot more reliable than sharper new grooves where some will bite and stop and it is harder to control the spin on fuller shots

Unless they have a special shaft or grind, I would probably look at new wedges. There are so many good wedges around these days you are really spoilt for choice. The Ben Hogan wedges look good as a value purchase, and loads of premium brands available too.

If this a budget issue then do it yourself.
Get some tomato ketchup, coke or vinegar and soak the heads in that for a couple of hours, if they are chrome finish rub them with wet Ali foil and that will recover the chrome, otherwise a stiff brush will do. You can use a wedge tool, but as many have said you could make the grooves illegal ( although the groove measuring chap has never greeted me or PPs at any tee in the last 30yrs) a gentle wet and dry sanding with a low friction paper will do wonders. Then paint fill if you want. Rejuvenate the grips with fairy liquid and stiff brush or replace.. replacing is easy so don’t be afraid of that.
If usage was low, I doubt you would have to do much to the grooves apart from remove dirt/sand/ grass ... I would then give them a spray of WD40 ... then place them on eBay ?????
