I came the closest I have ever done to a hole in one today. I've never really been very close before, but this was all over it for the whole of it's flight, pitched about 5' short and rolled right past the hole to about 30".
Close but no cigar, or bar bill!

I had one about 18 inches bemow the hole on a tricky par 3 over water once that was the closest I've come.
Still happier with my 2 on a par 4 when I drove onto the green and putted from about 20' for eagle.

Unlucky Gary, damn fine shot though.
I was 12 inches shy in my 1st or 2nd ever comp and was nearest the pin, shame I hadn't entered it and it has never been even close to being repeated, it was more luck than judgement btw

Yes, made the putt for a share of the 2's sweep. Was also nearest the pin at the time (we don't often have them in our comps) but there was quite a few groups to come through after us.
The furthest I've ever holed out from was against Rick at Woodhall last month from about 50yds.

The thing is anyone can get lucky on a par 3 regardless of handicap. I nearly had nearest the pin at Woburn in the morning round, was a peach of a shot (shame I was pants for the other 35 holes

Nice one Gary - sounds like deja vu from me a few weeks back - looked in all the way landed 4 foot short and rolled over the lip to stop 2 foot away - 1 centimetre in it!!! Haven't been close for years before that

I found the green on two of the par 3's today. That is a vast improvement. Granted they were 25 feet away but we're getting closer

Sorry to drag this back up again. I promise not to make a habit of posting photographs of my balls! 
I played last night with Nick (Crow) at his course as I have a comp match there in a couple of weeks. They have a few (potentially) driveable par 4's so I thought I'd have a go, and the following is the result of one of them.
Downwind, with a driver. Either the greens are very soft or I put too much backspin on the ball!
Oh, and I missed the putt.

Is that the 5th? I hit the green there last night and I was chuffed as i'm not a big hitter.
