So Tashyboys glorious winning streak continued today. Fourth win on the spin. But today was a four club challenge, the first one I have ever played in. I went Driver coz it’s a wand, 5 wood, PW, and putter. All four clubs I was massively happy with. But and it’s a massive but.
I was gobsmacked at how many lads in the 16 that played putted with a driver, fairway wood or hybrid.
What exactly is the thought process behind that. No one that putted with anything other than a putter came close to winning. Can anyone putt as good with anything else other than a putter.

My first club had a 3 club challenge and quite a few people would putt with a wedge. The greens there weren't huge so it wasn't the worst option. Much harder if the greens are big or tricky.

I wasn't confident enough to try it. I don't know if anyone won doing that but they certainly competed. With 4 clubs, no need to take that risk I'd say

Well obviously it gives you four options to hit shots with instead of three. Personally, I know how well I've putter since I switched to my current putter, it probably saves me 2 or 3 shots per round, so there wouldn't be any sense in me trying to putt with anything. I've not played a 3 club + putter before, but I'd probably go with 3 wood, 7 iron and maybe PW or AW.

Makes no sense to leave out the most powerful scoring club... the putter. We have a couple of these every year & no one does anything worthwhile without their putter. Best score I have seen, pre-WHS, was 46pts...... 40+ is what usually wins it.
Good options are, 3wood for tee shots & fairway. 7 or 8 for approach shots & a wedge for around the green & out of bunkers.

My thought process was driver, coz I am hitting it well 5 wood which I could use from 100-170, Pw which was like a wand and putter. Two of the par three were 120 and 135.i hit both greens with the 5 wood, another I was 10 yd short 160 into the wind.
A PP who missed four putts from 4 ft and less with his hybrid had 2 x hybrids 😳

46 points with only 3 clubs? 🤣😂🤣

100 yard 5 wood?? That's unreal technique to be fair. I would have no idea how to do that. 😄

I can do it.
I think it is something to do with how hard/soft you hit it, how long/short your backswing is and moving your hands down the grip a bit.

I have to use this same technique when hitting a low running bullet from the tress with a long iron to go 100 yards.

The way I play it is similar to a PW when playing shots. Bob explained it well the other weeks, different clubs different arcs etc. Also to go down the shaft takes off length and gives more control.

When I did a chipping lesson the Pro showed me how to chip using different clubs and seeing how the ball runs on. Re chipping the important point is try to hit the green so the ball runs out on the putting green. Hitting the first cut can cause it to kick left or right. Another thing he said “ put in your minds eye where you want the ball to land the ball “. If it is a 60 degree wedge it’s on the pin as there is no run. If it is half way to the hole to run out it could be a 7 or 8 iron.

The Five wood if I hit it 150 yards carry, a green that is 130 middle don’t need a lot taking off. The shortest green (110 front 135 back) is usually an 8 iron but the wind in the face was a two club wind. I flushed it sweet and thought it was flying through the back. I was left with a 60 ft putt. Two putts three points.
