Christmas Decorations

Didn't bother with any tree/decs/lights last year and probably wont again this year

Great for the kids but otherwise its really not needed here. Shops wont start playing music etc till about 10 days before, don't really get adverts on tv so no reminders there, i'm sure the office will still get decorated a couple weeks before though

Ive always said first weekend of december they can go up and come down first weekend in january

however this year 5th december I believe we are doing them as im nights so dont want to waste a weekend doing them lol

Discussions about how early some people put up their decorations has become something of a British pastime.

I'm not to be trusted with them and Mrs V loves decorating so I'm quite fortunate. As long as the kids enjoy them, that's the main thing.

My decorations are up......................in the loft where they will probably stay.

What I dont like are all the outdoor lights/reindeer/santas etc.

Mrs Dando and the "kids" will probably put ours up the first weekend in December and they will most likely come down a day or so after boxing day.

Mine normally go up about a week before the 20th, and come down somewhere around the 30/31st.
Dont want them up over New Years, and defo not when back to work.

I'm surprised we are still allowed to call them Christmas decorations, thought they were now something like 'winter festival' decorations. After all, would hate to offend anyone! :mmm:

Strictly speaking, they should go up on Christmas Eve and come down on 12th night.

If you ask HID, beginning of December. However, everything is in the loft and she won't venture up there in case of spiders, so basically when I can be bothered (I might get a weeks grace)

Neither the wife or I are big fans of decorations cluttering the place up. We will put a few up in the week before Xmas and they will be down again by the end of boxing day.

we are not bothering this year. Rupert would just destroy the tree, chew the decorations he could reach and rip the wrapped presents under said tree to pieces.

If you go for such stuff, logic suggests that you wouldn't put them up until you are into Advent - though that's not that long to wait as Advent starts on the 3rd December.

I wonder how many children these days know what Advent is all about and what they are celebrating by particpating in it when opening these wee doors on their Advent Calendar - because getting a 'gift' every day completely misses the point of Advent.

We are going to have fun this year with the tree and our 6month old kittens...:)

If you think about it, if your decorations are up for 5 weeks they are up for 10% of the year. Hardly special.
I would like to wait until the 16th or so, but because of the way it falls this time it might have to be the weekend before. I can understand though why homes with kids want to put them up earlier.

I don’t put them up. I claim they’ll be a danger to the much beloved dog.
I don’t do Christmas. Never have once I was a teen. I send our lass to her family. I hit the course. Which surprisingly there are others!

Probably 9/10 December as I am due to have surgery for a couple of discs in my cervical spine replaced with artificial discs on the 14th.
Said surgery is as a result of putting our rather large (boxed) artificial tree back up in the loft 3 years ago, and the box ended up dropping on my head!

Dunno, whenever the wife does it. I can't be mithered with putting them up, but love when they are, so hopefully soon.

Same for me. I leave it to the wife but love having them up. Had to ask her last night as I'm sure it's around now when she usually does it.

Rather depends how you view Advent...
