Just wondered what your preference was for chipping around the green.

Do you use the same club and vary the swing or different clubs and keep the same swing.

Up until now i have used a pitching wedge and varied the swing. But i am going to experiment with different clubs.

Its a very personal thing, but I would advise you to learn differnt shots with different clubs. The high floater with lob wedge right down to a low runner with a 6 or 7 iron.
That way you would cover all possible eventualities

Many years ago in a chipping lesson I had, I was told to choose the club which could land the ball a yard on the putting surface and then run out to the hole. So I can use anything from a 5 iron through to gap wedge.

9 iron for me unless im feeling like a tit or stupid and I use my 60 degree.

That signature picture is soooooo making me want to fly away some place hot (with my clubs, of course!)

i use my 52 degree for everything bar when i use my sand wedge to loft over a bunker for example.

i vary my stance and openess of the clubhead with the 52 to get different shots etc.

I find that I can do most chipping jobs with a 9 or a PW, but I do practice with other clubs. If I have to hit a lofted shot I just use PW or SW as I am used to it, but that is perhaps not the best way to go for everyone as there are plenty of tools out there for the job.

If i don't use the wedge, i use my hybrid for a chip and run .It's a real feel shot but i more often than not get closer with the hybrid, used with a putting style swing. On a 9 hole course that i play when camping during the summer i have played tee to green with it and scored almost as well as as when using the irons

It depends what wedge combo I'm carrying (either 52, 56 and 60 with hybrid/5W removed or 52 and 58). Whatever comb I use the club for the job so a soft lob would be 58 or 60 and a pitch and check would be a 52. If I need a pitch and run I'll use anything from the PW back to a 5 iron. Its all about being confident in your shot choice and not trying to emulate Mickleson floaters if you've never practiced them. Get a sound technique and then have some fun on the practice ground and see what each club can do (or you can make it do).

How many juniors do I see within 50 yards of the green reach for their lofted irons and try and hit a high soft landing shot. Not a seconds thought for any variance.

Watched IMO2 chip with a resue club whilst at Goswick outing, he lipped out on what would have been an eagle 3 if I remember right.

0-5 yards from the green I will play a 7 iron and lok to get the ball on the deck 1/3 of the way and let it run out 2/3rds of way.

5-45 yards I am using a PW and landing the ball half way and letting it run the rest of the way.

This is a rule of thumb only and taking into account many factors, I will change the club accordingly.

i use my 52 degree for everything

I have a 56 & 60 wedge

If i don't use the wedge, i use my hybrid for a chip and run

Chip & run - nearly always use an 8iron

It depends on the lie and what type of shot your trying to play.

Take your pick :)

9 to 7 iron for bump and run depending on how far off the green and depending on how much green to the pin.

To chip or play over anything I use my 53*

can play a flop shot but when under pressure this can go horribly wrong because you have to hit hard to carry the distance with the extra height a slight mis hit and you bullet through the back or kill one of your playing buddies.

IMO keep it simple and get good with one club/swing for chipping and one stroke for bump and run AND never forget to follow through.

I did this yesterday for the 1st time because the ball had to go under some low branches.

I left the shot short as I wasn't sure how the ball would come off the club, definatly something I am going to be working on in the coming weeks.

I chip with a 9 iron back of stance generally carry 25% run 75%

Although most greenside shots i use my 56 varying the height and spin for the shot required, though use my pw or 52 if its a bit of a bare lie and play a 50 carry 50 roll shot

Its the best part of my game i miss quite a few greens in a round and getting up and down can make a bad round reasonable
