Changing jobs because/after Coronavirus

I can see social distancing changing to if you cant social distance you must cover your face. Even if not a medical mask it reduces the risk of spreading not catching.

as for TFL can see changes in their side of things..... cuts to upgrades. can see the pic and bakerloo upgrades being binned

northern our battersea upgrade the track is down and signalling almost finished..... lot of private money behind it so can see that being finished

my side of things zero change we are in the safest role on the company. if they ever got rid of drivers they couldnt move without us (like the DLR, zero drivers but without the controller overseeing the moving and signalling of the computers in an incident the railway cant run)

im hoping londons levels of passenger loading drops to say 2006 levels so the upgrades arent so needed anyways

going to see how face masks work.. we cant even enforce tickets for people how we going to enforce masks.. mayb the public will self police amongst themseleves in shaming people

think id rather be starting a project now than trying to sell completed units, only real caveat would be having paid top top dollar for land. decent size project that, gl with it

Absolutely Fundy, were lucky that the sale value of the site is about £1.5m so the funding should be easier
 
I really hope night tube is binned aswell

Pointless service that is a massive money loss

Just run 1 hour later and 1 hour earlier

But that was pre covid now nobody will be out to need it

Get rid

Transfer the nightube staff to full time positions as we have enough vacancies
 
I was looking to move on, originally worked in retail, 20 year for Superdrug as a manager mainly. Hated it in the end so moved in to a totally different roll in document management, anyways last job i turned a insurance broker paperless and they offered me a insurance broker roll. Since then we have been bought twice, moving from 50 staff to 32,000. This role earns me quite a bit less than i was earning.

I am 49 and I had to go in the bottom and work my way up and my salary reflects this however once i discovered my 2 colleagues (there is 3 of us in my team) earn between 60% and 90% more than I, but due to my age and experience in management and having many secondary skills I am the one continually called on to do the extra and step up while they never do I was pretty disappointed to be told there was nothing to do salary wise and if I could manage to do even more maybe something would come up. This all occurred in January so I was planning on moving on but due to Coronavirus I can 100% work from home with no issues and my job seems very secure currently it may be I will have to stay where I am.

Very Frustrated
 
Not sure how this new normal will pan out or if people will just eventually forget and revert to the old normal.

But have to admit even though I've just moved to a new role albeit working from home with something to go back to. I've strongly considered the offer made the other week when the RN contacted me about a return to service but working on Boats instead as Comms Engineer. It would be guaranteed money income at a higher band, continuation of my military pension and coukd retire a little earlier than I already plan to and just do other bits on the side.. Its sorely tempting me right now.
 
Not sure what I will do, looks like the oil industry is finished for a while....
Only bonus I have is Ive no immediate rush to get anything, although I’d like to do something.
Can’t see the salary been anywhere as near as what I was getting though.

Never mind not being able to keep up nowadays - were I to have a go at berry picking or tattie howkin' I doubt I'd ever be able to get up of the ground nowadays...never mind straighten up. afterwards.

As mentioned - my career change might be to retiral...

We're very comfortably retired Hugh. I wish I'd retired in 2010/11, when I first thought about it, instead of Jan 2018. You don't get time back, and you don't get fitness either. Yes, things would have been tighter but we'd also have had more time to enjoy ourselves, and that includes with the grandchildren whilst they would have been more into us and less into PS4.

Just touching on something from an earlier post you had. When discussing what we wanted to retire with, with our Financial Advisor, and how long it needed to last he said something which you sort of touched. I said we needed x, y, z so that we could do a, b, c. Yes, all well and good but do you really think you'll be doing a walking holiday in Peru when you're 85? Structure your money for when you are most likely to need it - a lot of people in the mid/late 80's are actually saving money, not spending it.

That last bit is very true... until care costs start to kick in, then expenditure can mount up very quickly depending on need.

Keep the head up Brian, the market is really funny at the moment. Speaking to a mate that's in recruitment this morning, a simple Contract BA role that would normally get 25-30 applicants has had 295 as at 10am today (put up on Monday evening).

Persevere and keep the applications going in. I might need to start looking as well, but with nearly 300 people applying, I think I might hold off.

Cheers Greig, I’m lucky I’ve got no immediate rush to work, but it’s just the uncertainty with two young kids.

Tests are being booked from middle of June and are still going ahead for frontline staff albeit changed.
No accompanying driver can go on the test, the instructor's headboard is removed and replaced with magnetic plates, as soon as a serious fault is made (and the test failed) the examiner changes the route and gets back to the test centre asap...
I dont want to change what I've been doing for the last 16 years but, depending on how long it takes and what permanent changes are made, it may be time to move on.
As to which direction...well I think I've got Jack Sparrow's compass....:oops:

Is there anyway you could install a temporary clear polythene partition screen between you and the learner, Plenty of sprays and wipes the same as supermarkets, just a thought (y)

I'm in the same position Brian. I have my own business which I'd decided to sell last winter., I had a buyer and we were 2 or 3 weeks away from concluding so that's gone belly up. I'd been approached about a role back in Life Sciences which I was really hoping I'd get but they have had a reappraisal post Covid and want someone with experience and internal to hit the ground running as it's in respiratory. with little financial help for limited company directors and zero work coming in although I'm ok for a few months the job market situation is making me very nervous as I've 2 young kids as well.
