I am totally disgusted with Celtic FC.

They have banned the sale of poppies anywhere on there premises as they feel that this could be offensive to their large irish-based support.

An absolute disgrace, truly disgusting.

Aztec...This might be the referees and the SFAs work
But seriously, this is an absolute disgrace.
How easily they forget the sacrifices so many gave to give them the freedom to ply their trade!!
AND,They have a former Defence Secretary on the board,i.e
The Right Honourable John Reid,
What a shower!!

And frankly don't want too. As an ex member of the armed forces I think this is disgusting. I'm sure many Celtic fans laid down their lives in service of their country, how would they feel? Football has done a decent job in the UK of controlling racism and the sooner they stamp out this sectarianism crap on both sides the better, you might expect it from the stands but not the boardroom. By the way the idea that all Celtic fans are anti British is way off the mark anyway as I served with many in my 23 years in the RN.

I totally agree with you,its not right as i said but there's nothing worse than some knob posting about a club he knows nothing about ,and is basically looking to stir up something.

Why is the post offensive?

It is a current-affairs issue that has riled me hugely.

I have members of my family past and present in the military and earlier this year lost a dear friend in afghanistan.

What offends me is some lowlife deciding to ban a noble charity such as the legion from doing there great work for fear of upsetting a few people.

Last I heard Glasgow was in scotland, part of the United Kingdon & Great Britain and is the legion not a british charity?

Jon,

In Scotland, the Scottish Poppy Appeal is organised by The Earl Haig Fund Scotland who operate under the PoppyScotland name.

The Royal British Legion operate the fund South of the border.

Both organisations do sterling in raising much needed funds for an ever increasing number who need or will need assistance.

Ah,that time of year again and time for the Tim's to be booted by the press for what is really a non story.

Celtic have been asked about it and it's been reported in a poor attempt to make us look bad. Celtic have never allowed outside organisations to collect inside the stadium and the press has taken this fact has been turned into a "dig" at the poppy sellers.

Remember, there are thousands of fans who have lost family members or have relatives in the services who attend Celtic games so to imply that we are 'an absolute disgrace' smacks of exactly what Steve has said, someone that knows fek all about Scottish Football and is looking to stir sh1t.

Fail Fail.

Can you provide evidence to support this claim ? Sounds to me like tabloid journalism at its worst.

A red top up here and to be more specific, an English based one tried to make a story out of this about 3 years ago and it was met with silence as we Scots are fiercely proud of our armed forces but we do not need ignorant people who do not know or care about the facts trying to stir up more religious hatred. The armed forces are respected and supported up here. You talk about 'the legion' like a true Londoner without knowing that as DCB informed you our poppy charity is run by The Earl Haig Fund. I bet you don't even know we have a different poppy.

I hope you feel better getting that off your chest big guy.

The key to the whole debate is the “anywhere on there premises” as reported by the press and “inside the ground” as a Celtic spokesman has stated.

Celtic has allowed charities in the past to collect on their premises outside at the turnstiles (probably the best place to collect as everybody will pass) before. CHAS were collecting on the day of the Hibs game this season at the turnstiles with Celtics permission.

All charity work, including collections, inside the ground is done by the Celtic Charity Fund and not by outside charities as Dodger has correctly stated. They Celtic Charity Fund pass on the money to the charities they have nominated the collection for. One such charity that has benefited this way is MND which I think the late Jimmy Johnston may have suffered from.

If the Poppy charities are being stopped from collecting on Celtic’s premises outside the Stadium at the Turnstile entrances then it’s a different story. It has been stated that you could go elsewhere for a poppy if you wish which is certainly true, but how many will? At my work the previous catering firm always had a collection tin but the new ones don’t and there are visibly less poppies being worn than last year. This is despite the fact there is a collector standing outside the Supermarket next door who I can see from my window now. So it maybe if it’s not in front of you then you just might not bother.
If the charity feels that a meeting of almost 60,000 people may be a good opportunity to raise money should they really be denied the chance?.

If the Poppy charities are allowed to collect on the premises outside the turnstiles then it’s a complete non story and the charity spokesmen should shut up and get on with it.

Until some journalist gets of there lazy arse and tries to find out the simple facts behind some sensationalist tabloid headlines we will never know the full and correct story
