Just saw this. Very sad. I remember reading him in the Independent when I started work back in the day. Always came across as thoughful and cast an acerbic eye over the madness of modern football.
Bridget Jones columns too, when they first started out. Lunchtime beers. Happy dayz.... Full of youthful optimism and joie de vivre.

Just seen the news. I remember seeing The Jam back in 1981. Absolute class.
Really sad news that another of my heroes is no more.

Yes, I saw them at the Glasgow Apollo in 1978, or was it 79?
All Mod Cons and Setting Sons are absolute classic albums. Will get them on in the car tomorrow.

Gutted with this news . The Jam were my childhood & in to my adulthood. RIP Rick , so pleased I got to see them quite a few times .
It’s not often that news of a celebrity passing knocks me sideways, but this genuinely has.
I was a massive fan of The Jam as a lad, and have listened to their music consistently for over forty years. Barely a day goes by without one of their classics popping up on my playlist.
I have spent a little while this evening trying to decide which track is classic Buckler, but there are so many which have his powerful drumming underpinning them.
Narrowed it down to Funeral Pyre and A Town Called Malice. I can’t choose between them.
Another small part of my youth gone. Sad day.
