Carry and roll

I can carry the ball 250. Not often but I have. Generally my driving distance at the moment is about 230 with minimal roll. Come the summer I should be getting up around the 250-270 including roll.
But as Screwback says, distance isn't everything.
How close your 2nd shot to the pin is much more important.

Imurg, How long is your 18th hole? i drove that green a couple of years ago. Ironically it was the longest drive contest on that hole that day and i had to put the marker on the green and as i was first group out no one would believe me!!! It was down wind mind!!

429 from the whites according to the card - its straight so it should be fairly accurate. Even downwind that's one hell of a drive. I think I hit one nearly 300 in the summer on that one but it did roll a long way. Our 9th is downhill and there's a ditch at 320, the rough starts at 310 - a couple of times last summer I made the rough but mormally 250 is all I can manage there.

Took the liberty of measuring a couple of my drives (using sc of course) yesterday morning just to satisfy myself that I wasnt deluded after reading this thread. The first one measured out at 268 (flat and breeze off the right) the 2nd was 248 (breeze off the left).

This confirms what I said earlier in that I go about 240-260 at this time of year...simples

A good drive can only be remembered as good if the second shot does it justice - and then the third.....

It's no good smashing a nice drive down the middle and then shanking the next into the trees!

Or worse, finding the green and four putting.....

Not that I've ever done that. Not me.. NO WAY!

I trust you didn't win as usually for the longest drive comps the ball has to come to rest on the fairway .

300 and something - dont play often enough to keep track.

Driving is my thing though as you can probably tell, I would be happy to get 3 yards of roll.

Average golfer is approx 200 yards

Average pro swings at 113mph and drives 280yards
