In a recent other thread, roll was mentioned now the ground is firming up. But my question is how far have you been hitting your drives with these major 3 yards of roll

I only really started to check how far i was hitting them against the scorecard distance and i hit 220 minimum and a maximum of 255

I wouldnt have a clue how far I hit the ball! :D
Probably hit it about 230-250yards during the winter...i noticed that my drivers are going slightly shorter recently though :(

I'm a short hitter anyway so 240 is good for me. I reckon in the wet conditions I get about 210 carry and maybe an extra 10-15 yards with the run. On a good day and a dry fairway I'll get the odd one out to about 260 but its not much more

I hit a driver off the tee on our 501yrd par 5 yesterday and hit a 3 Wood for my second which landed on the green there wasnt roll on either as our faiways and greens are still slightly soft.
I walked off with Par though....Was disappointed with my putting.

You just know where this is going to go......

Get your skycaddies out and see how far you REALLY hit it before posting all the 280yard plus posts that are going to appear... ;)

I would say i hit the ball about 260 yards not much more not much less. length is boring its how close you hit it in 2 thats fun.

I guess i'm getting it out at about 240-260 which includes roll. Quite happy with that at this time of year (never been a big hitter) come summer just add a few more yards on

Well, I average 307 (note: not 306 or 308). I base this on one drive I hit last summer at Sundridge Park, down hill, down wind, and measured on SC, and witnessed by HTL, JustOneUK, and Leftie. It must be my average, because I have done it at least once.

I can carry the ball 250. Not often but I have. Generally my driving distance at the moment is about 230 with minimal roll. Come the summer I should be getting up around the 250-270 including roll.
But as Screwback says, distance isn't everything.
How close your 2nd shot to the pin is much more important.

At the moment, I've been struggling to get through the ball and that's been affecting my distance. I've been getting about 240 yards recently with not much roll.

The session last week at the range (with Coldplay) has helped me no end. The last couple of rounds have been much better with carry up to 270 yards.

Sadly, accuracy still not where it needs to be.

There ain't much roll in the long stuff.

I caught a replay of an old Wonderfull World of Golf programme on sky last night. Fred Couples was playing Greg Norman at Skibbo Castle. One of the shots they both played was a 2 iron into the breeze from 195 yards. Both hit the ball with a sunday best shot and managed to drop the ball onto the front of the green and roll out towards the pin.

So... now.... how far do you really hit the ball ? :D
