I have been browsing for a while and within the next couple of weeks I am going to look at getting a full bag fit if I can afford it, if not definately irons at least, however having never done this before I am a bit confused upon what I should be doing.

Can anyone recommend a good fitter? I am based in Wigan but would probably be willing to travel an hour or so to get the right clubs. I have asked my instructor who is giving me lessons, who I do trust and has recommended the pro in the shop he is linked to, as you would expect, and I do believe him but I wouldn't mind extra opinions.

If not could anybody discount any fitters that I should avoid? Also what should I be looking for, are there any hints or tips of what I should do when at the fitting.

Finally I was just curious how much potentially could you spend on a set of clubs? My Budget is probably around maybe £2000 if I feel the clubs are perfect, but I just want the clubs to be right for me, not the most expensive ones.

Maybe have a drive to clubhouse golf in salford. Very competitive on price and from what i've heard they have a good setup. Only potential downside is they only have simulator not an outdoor range.

I shall google them now, was on their website the other day, I didn't realise they were local.

Have a look at Tour X golf in Warrington. Nick's meant to be the mutts nuts.

Just had a quick google, he appears to have shut down and be moving to Wigan, a great upgrade for him haha, I will give him a call tomorrow I think and see when he'll be open, his website says he builds Tom Watson's clubs and wants to build mine too, seems pretty good to me just based on that haha.

I see you're from Chorley, just out of Curiosity where do you play? I'm at Duxbury this year with my maiden year of Membership.

EDIT:

Just looking through the Facebook now, some of the people he has fitted is crazy haha.

Shaw Hill at the moment, toying with a move to Pleasington though.

Duxbury is a great layout, think most people round our way cut out teeth there. It has the potential for being one of the best in the North West.

Very nice, I'd like to upgrade to a nicer course with more of a club feel but I'd hate to be anywhere decent while still taking the occasional accidental divot that a JCB would of been proud of.

I've emailed Nick too but it's £75 an hour for trackman fitting, I think that is one to consider carefully before I commit as I'd be looking at probably 5 hours for a full bag!

If your only just starting out then the chances are you'll prob swap your clubs over a few times as you improve, so going to Nick would be a bit costly.

Have a look at Ian Lee at Haigh Hall. He's got a great set up there and will match you up for a decent set, he's been there for about 30 years. Did my lofts and lies and sorted out a set of AP2's for my brother in law. I think (don't quote me on this, but most places do it) he knocks off the cost of the fitting from the cost of a set if you buy from him.

You've also got Chili Dip golf at the 9 holer and range in Blackrod - again, very good. They've even taken over the running of the shop at Shaw Hill

Ian was probably going to be my first choice initially but I thought I'd have a look around, I'm having my lesson with Alan at Haigh Hall and he seems great and says Ian would do a good job, just I couldn't see any reviews on the internet about him good or bad, so thought I'd have an ask around. The only thing putting me off slightly was he only really stocks 3 brands, everything else there seemed good.

I think you're right about Nick as well, £75 an hour plus potentially £2500 on clubs which I might advance from in a few years seems a tad expensive.

Thanks for all your advice :)
