Busted. A Cheat Caught

How would that work tho? I've been sent scores but not attested them until much later that day when I'm not longer at the course
I suppose you would need to name the attester at the beginning when you create the card - and they confirm they are there. Rather than just naming them at the end when you submit it.

Seems a very simple solution that wouldn't be hard to implement

Altho I bet it wouldn't work, wouldn't come through in time so just took east route

Nearly 30 years ago I knew of an ex County player who submitted false cards from Open Tournaments that he never played in.
He used to pick up a card of the course, fill it in and add a signature of a player off the draw sheet.
Bettered his handicap as a vanity thing to allow him to play in top amateur events.
From what I heard he got away with it for quite a while.

When someone submits a card on EG on an away course the person who attests it is named on the WHA portal

So if someone is putting in loads on the EG app then it won’t take much for the club to see who is signing them off

Alarm bells should be ringing there.
Perhaps those scr and 1 handicappers are trying to make a point. Certainly anyone in that bracket at my club has nothing left to play for. Not good enough to win the gross, there are several plus handicappers, and no way of beating the field, particularly the mid handicappers who have often gone from 8 to 13.

Not possible. THe attester must have a H/C and gets a message on the EG app asking for them to attest a score.
I didnt know that you had to have someone log in and verify your scores on the EG app
either way its a sad state of affairs that someone will go to such lengths to win something. i feel sorry for the person who came 2nd and has been deprived of their moment of glory.

If, and I have not had it confirmed that this is the case, someone who is an iPlay member (free to become one) can attest cards, then they don’t need to exist - it is just a name, email address and made up date of birth.

It is the case. I used to be an iPlay member before I upgraded to iGolf and I attested cards when I played with my Dad.

Nah they are just cheats trying to win decent prizes at Opens

You don't even need an official handicap to attest a round in myEG - free iPlay users also can attest a score for handicap. So it could be done for free, as long as you have access to another phone to sign for the score.
what is iPlay ?

scratch that...i've found it. Didnt realise it was an EG thing and I am utterly astonished that EG themselves provide a facility whereby a player who is not a member of any club can give himself a degree of legitimacy by signing up for the service and can attest to others scores.....now that is madness.

Only once the complaint came in, EG should be flagging suspicious trends in GP submissions and scores as matter of course and informing the individual and club.
What's a suspicious GP round though? I've shot 79 on a Friday afternoon then 97 the next morning before. Golf is hard and random things can ruin a score.

The ones that have been caught have mainly been a group where it’s multiple players playing in 4bB or pairs events

It’s been scratch or 1 HCs now playing off 7/8
Unless the blaggard is very patient, the Soft and Hard caps would prevent this happening.

I must say that I'm surprised that a scratch handicapper would cheat.

When you see the "geezers" walking off with new drivers or golf bags from Opens, that's worth their while.

I've just had an email about Pairs Events proudly proclaiming £2000 prize tables.

Yep, encourage the cheats.

Only members of a bonafide club with an active handicap should be allowed to attest any score. Unfortunately EG have tried to appease the nomad golfer and give them some benefits that only golf club members should have.
