So in real terms IF a golfer takes up the marketing grab and course promotion its a saving of £33 MAX per person and considering I can buy a tee time today on another site for £20 in reality its a £5 saving.

As I say its a decent track and £15 a head is a good deal. Is it part of the prize pot? My opinion no its a grab at a captive audience to (quite rightly) get players coming back and bring friends to hopefully gain a membership or two. Its a marketing ploy (loss leader or otherwise) and nothing more.

Could someone explain, why people think that when you enter an open, that the entry fee is really for a prize pot ?

I am struggling with this as I view it as a reduced green fee payment. is it a history thing ?, (and I have never heard of x% being paid out on any open I have entered or mentioned on any entry forms or like)

It's not the way I view it. Likewise I look for a course I want to play and pay the fee, prize pots don't come into the equation when you play golf as bad as me. However that doesn't stop me believing that in this case the prize pot was possibly too low, its only my opinion of course. Couldn't care less if people agree or not.

I'm well aware that clubs sell cut priced tee times, (normally after 3pm at weekends if I remember correctly) that's why I said ''potential saving''

Its a marketing ploy (loss leader or otherwise) and nothing more.

Maybe that's why the OP forgot to mention it

Funny one this... I go to an Open to play the course and have a day out... prizes are always the cherry on the top, if you pick your Opens based "purely on the Prize Table, that opens up another can of worms altogether! :)

If I had been a guest somewhere, I wouldn't have the neck to ring them and "provide feedback" on their expenditure on prizes!

If I was the Sec of a club where I got that sort of call, I might ring up my opposite number at the other club and make sure the score was entered on their records, and appropriate cut applied! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

This thread is still going 😂😂

Fair play to the bloke signing up to give their side of the story.

10 pages in and I still don’t know what the club did wrong.
They didn't but apparently 50 points from 3 non members means they should get more than £50 each.

I may be a tad cynical, based on the tales of those glory hunting at things like the Trilby tour, but does this have an element of "competitive" handicaps and people trying to play the local events and make a tidy profit? I know/HOPE these sort of tales are very much rarities and the vast majority would enter an open to play a different course for a good deal and simply enjoy the day, but this type of post makes me wonder if people are still pot (and cash) hunting

You never will because they didn't.

Greedy pot hunter gets the hump, calls them out on social media and makes himself look a complete knob is how it comes across to the vast majority on here.

Spot on !
Maybe they won because all the other pot hunters were playing elsewhere because they knew the prizes were low at this open.

Imo large cash prizes just encourage cheats and bandits .
It’s a day out for me and any prize is a bonus .

Good luck with that. 36 holes in the rain fills me with dread.

My ma watched the rte news and reckons we will miss it so you never know your luck.
I’ve been weather watching all day. When I woke up at 5.30 this morning it said 20% chance on bbc. At 10.30 it said 99. It is now saying 65. The weather radar is showing it right on top and sitting there all day.

We shall see.

Just my luck though, weather has been good all week and it just has to be the worst forecast I have seen in ages!
