Fair play for challenging them on it I say, that (in my opinion) is a stupid way to set it up! At our club they’ve also stopped people blocking tee slots up by adding ‘guest’ 3 times so they can play on their own. If you’re genuinely bringing a guest(s) it needs booking through the secretary or pro, the pro is also checking that who is booked is actually playing to prevent people working around it. If I put my name down to play solo I’m more than happy for folk to join, I’ve met some great people that way.

I mean if there is a few slots with just a single player say between 10-11am turn up at 10 and ask if you can join them. Might seem a bit cheeky but if you want to play worth a shot.
That has been suggested by the club manager, but what if the player doesn't want company? Also he has said that BRS have advised against allowing players to join other bookings as it would mean that you could book to play with just your friends, others could join you . I get that, but their must be another solution ?

Sounds like bs to me. At my club you can book for 1 - 4 people. I think if there are at least 2 of you, you can phone the pro and ask him to block the other slots. Couldn't be simpler

Kings has BRS and you can add yourself to other bookings if you want , must be a settings issue.
Different story at Nain, any time booked is your time and only shoes your name though you can add the number of players if you want.

We use brs, other people can add themselves to your bookings if they please.

If someone adds 'guest' then they are charged a green fee automatically.

To be fair, as a regular single player, I cant imagine how selfish you'd have to be to 'want to play on your own' on a prime weekend morning slot.

Itd be like phoning up the cinema, booking the first seat in a screen, then expecting no one else to be allowed in, because you want to watch on your own!!

If people like that exist then i never want to meet one!

You need to join a decent club in Cheshire then.(y)

Well in their defence it is their first year using BRS so maybe they may change things. The club manager is very quick to respond to any questions. This is possibly something they will have to address going forward. The club run so many member options it's what lured me in. The course itself is currently in the best shape I've seen it in my three years membership. USPGA greens that drain amazingly. And they've made them superb this year. I've already indicated to the staff that they've made a rod for their own back now, and we will expect this every year. I quite like it there. Just started this thread to see if other places do things differently and good to know they are / it can be. This is what this this forum can help with. Many thanks to everyone on this matter.

At ours, if you don't want company, (eg a 2ball match in a 3ball slot) we have the "Reserved" option to block out any empty spaces in a particular slot. I dare say, some use it to bag a singleton space, but I don't think it's common. The "Guest" option, is for bringing guests, and you're expected to pay a green fee for each "guest reservation". Its well accepted that any "empty" spaces in a tee time are up for grabs. Seems to work for us.
